Wellness Center Custodian (12:00pm-9:00pm or 1:00pm-10:00pm)
Position Level: Non-exempt
Reports to: Wellness Center Director
Position Summary
The Wellness Center Custodian is responsible for keeping the common areas, restrooms, offices, program areas, and equipment in a clean and orderly condition. This role is critical in maintaining the cleanliness of the facility and ensuring that proper cleaning and sanitizing standards are met.
Essential Job Functions (include but are not limited to)
- Cleans facility floors, walls, windows, machines, equipment, furniture, and mirrors.
- Services, cleans, and supplies restrooms and gathers and empties trash and recycling.
- Requisitions supplies and equipment needed for cleaning duties and organizes janitorial storage areas.
- Understands and adheres to best practices of manufacturers and industry standards to maximize equipment life cycles.
- Maintains cleaning chart indicating areas that were cleaned and inspected and handles emergency cleaning and upkeep requests.
- Provides guidance, direction, and oversight to part-time custodial staff.
- Sets up and tears down rental rooms.
- Assists in updating safety data sheet (SDS) binders and information.
- Ensures all work meets or exceeds the organization’s expectations.
- Demonstrates professionalism when representing the organization in all communications with internal and external customers and vendors.
- Sustains housekeeping standards in accordance with safety and appearance guidelines.
- Completes and demonstrates a full understanding of ongoing training concepts and applications.
- Emulates the organization’s values in daily interactions with internal and external customers.
- Meets organization standards on quantity and quality of work performed on an ongoing basis and performs all work-related tasks in a manner that complies with all policies and procedures.
- Adheres to the organizations' policies, procedures, and directives regarding standards of workplace behavior in completing job duties and assignments while maintaining regular and timely attendance.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education/Skills/Experience
- Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent is preferred AND one (1) year of janitorial, custodial, or housekeeping experience.
- Knowledge of the materials, equipment, and tools used in custodial tasks.
- Ability to take on routine and non-routine cleaning and special projects.
- Able and willing to work a 12:00pm—9:00pm shift.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and adherence to deadlines.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer contact skills.
- Good written and/or verbal communication skills.
- Good problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Ability to effectively communicate with others.

Work Schedule
This position is based on a standard workweek, Monday - Friday with some weekend hours as needed. The shift schedule will be either 12:00pm-9:00pm or 1:00pm-10:00pm. Occasionally this position requires attendance at meetings, conferences, and work sessions outside of normal business hours. These instances may include client meetings, public board meetings, team collaborations, or special events that fall outside the typical schedule. Flexibility in these situations is necessary as it contributes to our commitment to our customer’s satisfaction and project success. Regular, predictable attendance is required. Note: this position follows the Wellness Center personal holiday day (PHD) policy and does not follow the standard city holiday policy.
Working Environment
- Indoor controlled temperature environments where the employee may be exposed to noise, chemical fumes, airborne particles, plumbing/electrical connections, body fluids, and blood-borne pathogens.

Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to:
- Possess the ability to push, pull, lift, and carry up to 25 lbs.
- Stand for extended periods of time
- Reach, stoop, and kneel to work with cleaning equipment
- Communicate both in person, electronically, and by telephone as needed.
- Required to read printed materials and those on a computer screen.
Training to be completed
- Comprehensive understanding of the vision, goals, and objectives of the organization.
- All relevant Business System software.
- Successfully complete continuing education required to maintain knowledge of systems and programs.
- All applicable compliance training.

Certificates/Licenses
- CPR and First Aid certification or ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire date.
