What are the responsibilities and job description for the Fleet Equipment Specialist I position at City of West Palm Beach?
Under limited supervision, diagnoses and repairs all computer related drivability problems on City equipment; diagnoses and repairs computerized fueling on vehicles and fuel island; assists with the daily tasks concerning the fleet operation; and performs other related duties as assigned.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Which are not in any hierarchical order)
1. Diagnoses and repairs all computer-related drivability problems on city owned vehicles
2. Diagnoses and repairs computerized fueling systems installed at fuel sites and on vehicles, also new insulation and help maintains proper inventory of supplies.
3. Repairs and diagnoses all City owned equipment from small equipment to large trucks, mechanical, drivability, hydraulics, tires, etc.
4. Assists other mechanics when required.
5. Maintains all computerized diagnostic equipment (software updates, repairs, replacements, etc.).
6. Assists the Fleet Supervisor with daily tasks as necessary. May act as supervisor in their absence.
7. Communicates with vendors and other government agencies concerning equipment and job procedures that will benefit the City.
8. Installs stripping and decals on all City vehicles
9. May participate in the interview and hiring process, as required.
10. Inspects all cabs and Jitney Service vehicles that operate within the City per City Codes. (I.e. Downtown trolleys and limo service)
11. Issues shop tools to personnel, as needed. Performs inventory procedures
12. Trains fleet personnel, as needed, in the use of diagnostic equipment, or any related equipment.
13. Responds to emergency calls on a call out basis and works outside normal working hours.
14. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Salary
$28.94 hourly - Pay grade 58

Qualifications
Associates degree (education will be verified using the “Education Requirements” listed below) and four (4) years progressively responsible work experience in fleet maintenance and repair is required, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
A current and valid Florida Class B Commercial driver’s license with the appropriate CDL endorsement is required.
Education Requirements:
a) a public education institution in the State of Florida or any State or Territory of the United States; or
c) an institution that is accredited by an organization that is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA); or
International degrees will be evaluated to determine if they satisfy qualification requirements.
Special Driving Requirements
Have not lost any driving privileges by reason of revocation, suspension or denial of license, or have been convicted and/or had an adjudication withheld of three or more moving violations.
- Have not had one DUI (Driving Under the Influence) in any preceding twenty-four (24) month period. License suspension of two weeks or less or suspensions based only on non- moving violations that have been cleared will not automatically result in revocation of driving privileges.
Have not had more than one DUI (conviction or adjudication withheld) in Florida or any other state within the past ten (10) years.

The selection process for this position may consist of any, all or a combination of the following tests: evaluation of training and experience, written examination, structured oral interview or other assessment method.
State of Emergency: When normal operations of City departments are suspended or interrupted due to a declaration by the Mayor that a state of emergency exists, all employees will be deemed critical by the City. For the preparation and/or continuation of emergency operations or for special work detail, employees deemed necessary shall be required to work. Employees deemed critical by the City but not needed for the initial preparation and/or continuation of emergency operations or for special work detail may be directed not to report to work, and given paid administrative leave or they may be reassigned to another location that best meet the needs of the City.
