What are the responsibilities and job description for the Fleet Operations Supervisor position at City of West Palm Beach?
Under limited supervision, assists management in the supervision of the maintenance, servicing, and repair of various type of vehicles and equipment, supervises assigned personnel as determined by management, and communicates/coordinates with vendors, personnel from user departments/divisions, staff from the fleet office and parts regarding repair of vehicles and equipment; may perform related duties as assigned.
1. Supervises shift personnel, determines daily staffing needs/requirements, evaluates work performance, interviews prospective employees, recommends personnel actions, and completes performance reviews for assigned staff.
2. Determines training needs and trains personnel as required.
3. Completes a daily assessment of vehicles/equipment brought to Fleet for repair, prioritizes equipment repair, determines reason for any delay in repairs and notifies appropriate parties.
4. Delegates/monitors repair assignments and evaluates same to maximize shop productivity.
5. Maintains a safe and clean working environment for shop employees, ensures that employees practice and comply with City and Department policies, procedures and safety practices.
6. Monitors personnel productivity, vehicles/equipment up/downtime reports and preventive maintenance programs.
7. Keeps management informed of any potential problems or situations.
8. Monitors and assists in the disposal of vehicles/equipment, installation of shop tools/equipment, coordination and repair of shop tools/equipment insuring they are maintained in state of operational readiness.
9. Communicates with user departments concerning the upkeep and maintenance (both schedule and unscheduled) of vehicles and equipment.
10. Contacts outside vendors (e.g. car/truck dealers, paint a body shops) for repair of vehicles and equipment and to arrange for warranty repair.
11. Coordinates road service calls or special needs.
12. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Salary
$69,811 Minimum - $87,271 Mid (Pay grade 64)

Qualifications
High school diploma or GED, and seven (7) years of experience in automotive, vehicle and equipment repair, or any equivalent combination of training and experience. One (1) year supervisory or lead worker experience is preferred.
A valid Class B Commercial Florida driver’s license is required or the ability to obtain within six month of employment.
- a public education institution in the State of Florida or any State or Territory of the United States; or
- an institution accredited by an accrediting organization that is recognized by the Florida Department of Education or the U.S. Department of Education; or
- an institution that is accredited by an organization that is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).
- an institution whose degree or certification is accepted by institutions identified in either a), b), or c), above, for the purpose of admission to institutions identified in either a), b), or c) above.
Special Driving Requirements:
Have not lost any driving privileges by reason of revocation, suspension or denial of license, or have been convicted and/or had an adjudication withheld of three or more moving violations or,
Have not had one DUI (Driving Under the Influence) in any preceding twenty-four (24) month period. License suspension of two weeks or less or suspensions based only on non-moving violations that have been cleared will not automatically result in revocation of driving privileges.
Have not had more than one DUI (conviction or adjudication withheld) in Florida or any other state within the past ten (10) years.

The selection process for this position may consist of any, all or a combination of the following tests: evaluation of training and experience, written examination, structured oral interview or other assessment method.
State of Emergency: When normal operations of City departments are suspended or interrupted due to a declaration by the Mayor that a state of emergency exists, all employees will be deemed critical by the City. For the preparation and/or continuation of emergency operations or for special work detail, employees deemed necessary shall be required to work. Employees deemed critical by the City but not needed for the initial preparation and/or continuation of emergency operations or for special work detail may be directed not to report to work, and given paid administrative leave or they may be reassigned to another location that best meet the needs of the City.
