DEFINITION: Under the general direction of the Recreation Supervisor I/II or designee, gives direct supervision of the pool during swim lessons, public swim, or special activities.
ESSENTIAL AND MARGINAL FUNCTION STATEMENTS: Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Essential Functions: Enforces rules and regulations governing the conduct of patrons of the pool; ensures the safety of participants at all times; administers first aid as necessary; assists in implementing all emergency procedures in case of a serious accident or injury; attends all staff meetings and training sessions; and performs other related duties as assigned.
Marginal Functions: Performs pool and facility maintenance as necessary.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: At least fifteen (15) years of age at the time of employment. Prior experience working as a lifeguard is desirable.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES: Must possess the following current certificates prior to placement at the worksite: Lifeguard Training, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for the Professional Rescuer, Standard First Aid and Title 22 of the CA Health and Safety Code. Water Safety Instructor (WSI) highly desirable.QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of: Lifeguarding procedures; emergency procedures, first aid and CPR; efficient and safe operation of swimming pools; pool maintenance procedures. Ability to: Perform emergency procedures and lifesaving techniques; work with people of all ages, cultures, languages and varying aquatic skills; supervise groups of swimmers; remain calm in an emergency situation, follow oral and written instructions; establish and maintain cooperative relationship with those contacted in the course of work; maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities.
