Position Summary
The City of West St. Paul is now accepting applications for the 2025 Spring & Summer Season.
Youth Recreation Instructors will be responsible for instructing, coaching, and leading youth in various recreational programs. Programs are typically arts & crafts, sports, games, and free-play oriented. Instructors will have an opportunity to provide input on what program(s) they are interested in working. Must be mostly available for the summer season, from June 9-August 24, 2025, on assigned days. No weekends unless working at the Municipal Pool.
Due to staffing requirements, time off requests will need to be limited. Hours are anticipated to be between 15-32 hours weekly but will be dependent on staff availability and program registration.
Youth Recreation Instructors may also select to work hours at the West St. Paul Municipal Pool. Please review the Essential Duties and Responsibilities that apply only to the pool.
Applications will be accepted until positions are filled; however, early consideration will be given to applicants who submit their application before March 3, 2025.

Primary Duties
- Implement, assess, and instruct a variety of youth recreation programs.
- Follow daily schedules and program plan instructions.
- Create a positive and fun recreational atmosphere in the parks.
- Provide excellent customer service to parents/guardians and participants.
- Work independently to solve problems and respond to issues quickly and safely.
- Enforce facility rules and regulations.
- Use basic first aid procedures to assist injured participants. Contact EMS as needed.
- Maintain proper documentation for all accidents and incidents.
- Perform other duties and assume other responsibilities as are apparent or assigned.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities – West St. Paul Municipal Pool
- Monitor concessions inventory and advise supervisor when product stock gets low.
- Conduct transactions of products, including the collection and processing of payment.
- Provide excellent customer service to pool visitors.
- Monitor and maintain sanitation and organization of assigned areas.
- Balance cash drawer daily, including completion of a deposit slip and ensuring cash drawer has designated amount for next day’s operations.
- Keep inventory stocked on sale displays.
- Work nights and weekends as scheduled.
- Enforce facility rules and regulations.
Minimum and Preferred Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be at least 15 years of age.
- Experience working with youth.
- Knowledgeable in one or more of the following areas: general sports, activities, arts/crafts.
- Previous experience working or volunteering for recreational programs, community groups, or non-profits.
Preferred Qualifications
- Any combination of CPR/AED/First Aid Certification(s).

- Must be polite, approachable, and respectful.
- Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Work well with others in a team atmosphere.
- While performing duties of this job, must be able to sit, stand, walk, talk or hear; handle or operate objects, tools or equipment; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; kneel, crouch or crawl; lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
