At Westerville Parks and Recreation, we offer campers a wide range of opportunities to make new memories, friends and HAVE FUN!
At camp, you can be a kid again! You will have fun leading activities, going swimming, experiencing field trips and more with our campers!
Enjoy YOUR summer! Counselors do not have to work nights or weekends.
You are guaranteed 15-30 hours a week, depending on the schedule of the camp.
Staff team building and social activities planned throughout the staff.
We have developed a staff appreciation program throughout the summer. We notice your hard work, time and energy you put into our program!
This position helps students earn the OhioMeansJobs-Readiness Seal.
Staff have the opportunity to request up to 5 days off. Preschool Camp does not meet the week of June 16th and the week of July 30th, however, preschool camp staff will have the option to work at our day camp locations. Staff have the opportunity to request up to 5 days off. All staff are guaranteed June 19th and July 4th off.
Also note: Preschool Camps schedule varies week to week. Counselors must have a flexible schedule. Please note, the Preschool Camp Counselor position works with ages 3-5 years old, camp runs 8:30am-12:30pm. Counselors will have the option to work at our day camp location in the afternoon. Preschool Camp is held at an outdoor park throughout the summer.

SUPERVISION
Under the direction of the Recreation Program Supervisor/Manager.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF WORK
(May not include all duties performed.)
- Counselors are directly responsible for the supervision and safety of their campers.
- Assist with the development and implementation of weekly schedules for the assigned day camp group.
- The counselor must be a positive role model with exemplary leadership and communication skills.
- The counselor should make relationship building a high priority at all times through the implementation of fun, inclusive, and engaging activities.
- Organize and lead a variety of small and large group activities each week. Activities may include crafts, nature, sports, games, swimming, field trips, etc.
- Ensure that the site and camp equipment is kept clean, organized and safe.
- Manage camper behavior in an age-appropriate way to achieve camp objectives and expectations.
- Communicate with parents about participant’s experiences and report concerns to Camp Leadership.
- Assist in maintaining accurate program records including incident reports, documentation, and daily attendance.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS OF WORK
- Must be 17 or older by May 27, 2025
- CPR/First Aid and QPR Training paid for and we pay you to complete the training.
- High school graduate or college experience in parks and recreation, physical education, art education, or related field.
