What are the responsibilities and job description for the Maintenance Custodian position at City of Westerville?
This is manual work in the care, cleaning and maintenance of assigned city buildings and properties. Responsibilities include sweeping, mopping, dusting, emptying trash, cleaning restrooms, washing windows, maintaining outside sidewalks and performing other cleaning tasks as needed. Please note, that this position is under the United Steelworkers (USW) Union, as such, a successful candidate would start at Step 1 and earn $20.48/hr.
REGULAR HOURS OF WORK:
The regular hours of work are 9:00 PM - 5:30 AM. A successful candidate's schedule will be further determined by their supervisor.

- Vacuums, sweeps, mops, scrubs, buffs and polishes floors; shampoos carpets; washes windows and walls.
- Dusts, polishes, and cleans tables, desks, and countertops. Moves tables, furniture and equipment.
- Cleans and sanitizes restrooms, showers, locker rooms and drinking fountains; replenishes restroom supplies; clears drains.
- Empties trash containers and recycling containers into the appropriate dumpster.
- Sweeps or blows off outside walkways; shovels and removes snow; spread ice melt and pick up litter.
- Closes and locks buildings; opens buildings; maintains the security of the buildings while performing essential functions.
- Loads and unloads cleaning supplies, materials and equipment.
- Makes minor repairs to vacuums, toilet seats, paper dispensers, soap dispensers, amd replaces light bulbs.
- Notifies supervisor when supplies are needed or other items for consideration.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Some knowledge of building cleaning practices, supplies and equipment.
- Some knowledge of safety standards and regulations pertaining to the care and cleaning of buildings and grounds.
- Ability to read and follow written and oral instructions.
- Ability to operate such equipment as a vacuum cleaner, buffer, leaf blower, or floor scrubber.
- Ability to perform manual labor, including bending, stooping, reaching, climbing ladders and lifting heavy objects.
