What are the responsibilities and job description for the Water Maintenance Technician position at City of Westerville?
This is technical and manual work doing repair and maintenance of the water treatment plant and the associated equipment that is utilized in its operation. It also includes maintaining inventory and ordering necessary parts and equipment, and dealing effectively with outside contractors and the publicWork is performed under the supervision of the Water Facilities Superintendent. Employee must be able to work alone and be a self-starter. Due to industry requirements, detailed work reports or logs are required. Annual performance review completed by immediate supervisor.(May not include all of the duties performed.)

- Installs, connects and disconnects water treatment equipment such as pumps, drives, chemical feed equipment, in-line monitoring apparatus, and other related equipment.
- Tests and repairs electrical and control circuits to resolve problems.
- Coordinates all repair and maintenance work with other plant staff to accommodate the proper operation of the treatment facility.
- Uses a variety of hand tools, meters, and equipment to install, test, maintain, and repair the water plant and its assets.
- The employee will also maintain these tools and equipment; as well as make recommendations for replacement or new ones that are needed.
- Maintains a variety of records and prepares reports when required.
- Attends meetings; follows proper safety procedures.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Thorough knowledge of effective safety procedures, standards and precautions related to electrical safety.
- Considerable knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures of repair and maintaining of equipment.
- Knowledge in the use of a multimeter for troubleshooting electrical problems as well as verification of zero energy conditions for electrical safety reasons.
- Ability to diagnose and assess electric or mechanical problems and take appropriate corrective actions.
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle, walk lengthy distances, climb up and down stairs.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public.
- Ability to communicate tactfully and effectively with the public.
- Ability to visually detect problems.
- Ability to operate a computer and other standard office equipment to perform necessary job functions.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Possession of a valid Ohio driver's license.
