The Sport Official (Adult) position is responsible for officiating indoor adult soccer games and providing a safe and positive environment for participants. This is a part-time position that is scheduled primarily for leagues in the evenings (year-round) with the potential for some occasional weekend hours. Recreation staff have the primary responsibility of ensuring the safety of program participants.

The availability of work hours for this position will be determined by one or all of the following factors: program length, weather, and budget.

The full salary range for this position is stated above. The starting range of pay is dependent on qualifications and experience of each individual candidate.

This position supports the goals of the Parks, Recreation and Libraries Department, which enhances the quality of life for all Westminster citizens by providing diverse leisure, recreational and informational services and resources; and acquiring, developing and maintaining first-class parks, facilities, open space and recreational trails. Essential Job Functions, Duties, Responsibilities, and Tasks
  1. Officiate games fairly, consistently and accurately, according to the general rules of the sport and of the City of Westminster house rules
  2. Provide a safe and positive environment for participants
  3. Serve as a role model and maintain professional conduct at all times
  4. Maintain discipline in recreation areas
  5. Communicate with and develop positive relationships with coaches, participants and spectators
  6. Keep score during the game and report final game score and penalties
  7. Maintain regular and punctual attendance
Other Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Assist with set-up and break down of various facility and/or game equipment
  2. Perform minor maintenance and cleaning of recreation equipment and inventory
Incumbent is accountable for all duties of this job, and other projects and responsibilities may be added at the City's discretion.Education, Experience, Skills, Formal Training, Licenses, and Certifications
Required:
  1. Must be at least 18 years old
  2. Sport-specific official/referee certification from a recognized sanctioning organization, grade 8 from USSF or able to obtain license within one year of being hired
  3. First Aid, CPR and AED certification within 120 days of hire
Preferred:
  1. Previous sport official/referee experience
  2. High school diploma or GED
Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, which would provide the required knowledge and skills, may be considered.

Physical Requirements
This position requires a moderate degree of physical stamina and strength, including the ability to:
  • Frequently sit, stand and walk through a facility
  • Frequently jog or run while refereeing soccer games
  • Occasionally squat, bend, kneel, twist, climb, balance and reach over head
  • Occasionally lift, carry, push or pull items weighing up to fifty (50) pounds
  • Frequently use hands and fingers for fine manipulation; occasionally use light and firm grasp
  • Frequently see objects up close to perform office tasks and far away to observe activity for safety hazards or problems
  • Constantly use hearing to interact with guests and staff and recognize trouble outside of view
  • Occasionally use sufficient physical strength, stamina and agility to perform emergency work in various capacities
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed indoors in a high public use, recreation facility where loud noise and multiple events and activities at one time may cause a distraction.

Required Materials and Equipment
General sport and recreation equipment (i.e. whistle, stopwatch, scoreboard), calculators, telephones, PA systems, copy machines and other standard office equipment, gym floor covers, hand tools, AED, gloves, and pocket masks.

Candidates must be legally entitled to work in the United States and must successfully pass a criminal background check, reference check, and substance screen. There may be additional pre-employment requirements depending on the nature of the position.
