Maintain a high level of cleanliness in all public areas of the assigned facility on a daily basis, i.e., sweep, vacuum, wash, strip and polish floors; shampoo carpets, dust and polish fixtures and equipment, furniture, woodwork, wash windows and walls, clean desks and counter tops, empty and clean waste receptacles, clean rest rooms, showers, locker rooms, pick up papers and other debris.
Provide maintenance and custodial assistance for building improvements and repairs for emergency building needs.
Operate a variety of cleaning equipment while performing cleaning duties; clean and perform routine maintenance on custodial equipment; maintain supplies in rest rooms; maintain custodial supplies and equipment; stock inventory of materials and supplies.
Coordinate and assist in work to maximize work efficiency and quality; adhere to schedules set forth by supervisor; observe and enforce safety precautions pertaining to the cleaning chemicals and solvents used in the facility.
Respond to and resolve unexpected disturbances to the cleanliness of the facility (i.e. spills, mud, accidents, etc.) when noticed or when such problems are reported by any person. Perform related work as required and assigned.

Works under the direct supervision of the Facilities Operations Supervisor.

Independence of Action:
Work is performed in accordance with established procedures and well-defined standard practices requiring some authority to select which methods are applicable in any given situation. Virtually all work is reviewed regularly while in progress and upon completion for accuracy and quality. Matters not specifically covered in operating instructions are reviewed with the supervisor.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL ABILITIES REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Work is primarily performed inside. Work requires a high degree of manual skill needing the ability to use hands to fingers; requires lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying of heavy loads of over 45 lbs.; reaching with both hands; walking and standing for long periods of time; crawling, bending, kneeling, and climbing; requires ability to hear and focus on close work. Work includes exposure to excessive intermittent noise, dust, dirt, silica, fumes, or gases, solvents, grease, oils, wetness, machinery and its moving parts occasionally, heat, cold, radian energy, electrical energy and slippery or uneven walking surfaces. Incumbent must have the ability to work some weekends, holidays, and nights.
Work requires operation of a variety of equipment, i.e., buffer, vacuum, carpet extractor, wet/dry vacuum, broom, dust mop, wet mop, portable scaffold ladder, hand duster, dust cloth, mop bucket wringer, floor brush, squeegee, scraper.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge - Methods, techniques, materials, tools and equipment used in custodial work; safe work practices.
Skills - Demonstrated skill in the operation of equipment necessary to perform the functions of the job. Basic knowledge and familiarity with computers and windows.
Abilities - Clean and care for assigned areas and equipment; use a variety of custodial equipment and materials; understand and carry out oral and/or written directions; perform physical tasks required; adhere to schedules for periodic cleaning of assigned buildings and facilities; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others; observe and report needs for maintenance or supplies; work independently in the absence of supervision. Lift and move up to 50 pounds.
EVIDENCE OF QUALIFICATIONS:
Training - Completion of eighth grade.
Basic understanding of English Language.
Experience - Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides evidence that the applicant possesses the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
