The City of Wheat Ridge provides high-quality recreational programs that promote teamwork, physical activity, and personal growth. We are looking for an energetic and passionate Recreation Leader to teach, instruct, or lead youth athletic classes, ensuring a fun and engaging environment for participants.

- Plan, organize, and lead youth athletic programs (e.g., soccer, basketball, football, volleyball, etc.).
- Engage and motivate participants while promoting teamwork and sportsmanship.
- Ensure a safe and inclusive environment for all youth athletes.
- Set up and take down equipment for activities.
- Communicate with parents and guardians regarding schedules, progress, and any concerns.
- Enforce program rules and maintain discipline in a positive manner.
- Provide assistance and oversight to the Soccer program and act as a city representative for games at City Park in Westminster
- Assist with various aspects of the Middle School Sports program as needed (coaching, scorekeeping, officiate, site supervision)
- Assist the Athletics Coordinator and Supervisor with other duties as assigned.
Minimum Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions
- Experience working with youth in a coaching or instructional role.
- Previous experience planning activities, supervisory experience with groups of participants.
- Experience working with individuals with physical and developmental disabilities is preferred.
- Background in sports, physical education, recreation, or related fields preferred.
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
- Ability to adapt activities to accommodate different skill levels.

- Communicate effectively and diplomatically with participants, parents, co-workers and public.
- React quickly and correctly in emergency situations.
- Instruct and oversee a large group, lead games and/or activities,
- Enforce safety regulations firmly analyze situations quickly and objectively and determine proper course of action.
- Express ideas clearly and concisely; establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Evidence Of Qualifications
- American Red Cross Adult/Child/Infant First Aid, AED, and CPR Certification or must obtain within forty-five (60) days from hire
Supplemental Information
Supervision Received
Works under the direct supervision of the assigned Recreation Coordinators and general supervision of the assigned Recreation Supervisor.
Supervision Exercised
While this position does not currently supervise direct reports, they may provide oversight to the Recreation Aide.
Independence of Action
Work is performed within authorized limits prescribed by the supervisor and/or policy. Exercises independent judgment in selecting and interpreting information, handling deviations from standard methods, and resolving problems, including emergencies. Finished work is reviewed for attainment of objectives and adherence to deadlines. Supervisor is available to assist in solving problems.
General Information
Working Conditions/Physical and Mental Effort
Performed in an indoor/outdoor setting where incumbent may be subject to noise and distraction; requires extended periods of hearing and speaking in a loud voice for up to an hour at a time; requires public relations skills in handling concerns and complaints; entails working closely with others and working with little to no supervision; requires excellent organizational/time management skills. Requires muscular exertion and/or physical strain and frequent concentration on an activity where the flow of work is intermittent or the operation involves little attention or checking; requires ability to use walk, hands to fingers, reach, climb, bend, stoop, crouch and occasionally lift objects weighing less than 24 lbs.
Equipment Used
All equipment available and necessary to teach and instruct in area of expertise in addition to use of a telephone, copier, and other office equipment to adhere to required policies/procedures.
