Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead the Parks and Recreation marketing team, comprised of a Marketing Specialist and Graphic Designer, to achieve department goals.
- Oversee the development of the marketing plan for Parks and Recreation, which includes marketing and sales campaigns in conjunction with departmental strategic plans by creating goals and objectives that meet business needs and initiatives.
- Oversee delivering of public information in the form of advertisements, social media campaigns, e-newsletters, facility closures, website content, and our activity guide.
- Supervises staff responsible for writing articles, preparing information for social media sites, and coordinating information for dissemination.
- Assist the department in developing and implementing the sponsorship and advertisement opportunities available to the public.
- Responsible for selecting and purchasing promotional items, pro-shop items, and uniforms for the department.
- Responsible for implementing brand standards across all platforms.
- Assist the department in creating social media content, including idea brainstorming and on-camera participation.
- For other public information matters, including emergency communication, news releases, and media inquiries, this position will coordinate with and seek direction from the City’s Public Information Officer.
- Establish and maintain a working environment conducive to positive morale, individual style, quality, creativity and teamwork. Create a safe environment for team members and patrons.
General Programs

Supervise our General Programs area. General programs is a section of the Parks and Recreation Department that includes the following types of classes and programs:
- Parent-tot, preschool, youth, teen, and adult general interest classes
- Licensed day camps and preschool
- Therapeutic Recreation programs
- Children’s Pavilion
- Supervise two full-time staff, a Recreation Coordinator and Recreation Specialist, in addition to several variable team members and volunteers.
- Responsible for designing, organizing, administering, implementing, evaluating, and supervising programs in assigned area.
- Provide direct supervision of general programs, develop and implement all aspects of programming and activities.
- Perform administrative duties as it relates to specific programs.
- Oversee and administer the collection and distribution of fees and monetary transactions, record keeping, and reports.
- Perform promotional and educational work to encourage public interest, awareness, and program participation.
- In the evaluation of programs: provide operating statements and reports, proposals for fee structures, maintain detailed record system by collecting, assembling, and analyzing data, and preparing reports as required.
- Promote programs by preparing class and schedule information for the department activity guide, effectively utilizing outside media tools and speaking with the general public.
- Coordinate and manage special events in collaboration with other City departments or outside agencies. In addition, partner with internal and external community groups for programming.
- Oversee expenditures and revenues by preparing program budget, responsible for administering and monitoring funds.
- Provide basic ADA technical assistance and training to employees, managers, and other external stakeholders on accessibility issues and codes.
- Ensure all possible safety measures are observed, taking proper care of equipment, conducting regular inspections of program sites, providing adequate training for staff in safety procedures.
Minimum Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions
- Principles, practices and methods involving program planning, the development implementation and coordination of assigned programs, equipment and facilities necessary for assigned programs, teaching methods, rules, policies and procedures to manage and administer program for specific area.
- Considerable knowledge of necessary safety requirements and procedures. Thorough knowledge of facility operations, procedures and policies, of interviewing/hiring techniques and basic personnel procedures and policies, of public relations techniques and good journalistic skills.

- Demonstrate skill in preparing written reports and projects, skill in the operation of equipment necessary to perform the functions of the job.

Evidence of Qualifications
Education - Minimum of bachelor’s degree in Recreation Management, Marketing, Human Services or a closely related field.
Experience - Three (3) years of increasingly responsible professional, technical, and/or supervisory experience in district or municipal recreation work preferred. Marketing experience preferred. CPRP or similar recreation certifications preferred.
Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides evidence that the applicant possesses the required knowledge, skills and abilities.Supplemental Information
Supervision Received Works under the direct supervision of the Recreation Manager. Supervision Exercised
Exercises supervision over full-time, part-time, seasonal, and volunteer employees as assigned.
Work is performed within authorized limits prescribed by the supervisor and/or policy. Exercises independent judgment in selecting and interpreting information, handling deviations from standard methods and resolving problems. Finished work is reviewed for attainment of objectives and adherence to deadlines. Supervisor is available to assist in solving problems.American Red Cross CPR/First Aid/AED Workplace Training required within 45 days of hire.
