It is located on the shores of Whitefish Lake and the base of Big Mountain – home to Whitefish Mountain Resort. Whitefish also boasts over 36 miles of natural surface single-track mountain biking and hiking trails with 10 trailheads, golfing, world class dining, two professional live theater companies, and is only thirty minutes from Glacier National Park.


This position will remain open until filled.

 

This position will be filled on a "seasonal" "temporary" or "short-term" basis dependent upon the applicant's availability and timeframe worked, past and present.  This position will be filled to work for the approximate time period of July 2025 - August 2025.

GENERAL PURPOSE:

Teach skills and coach youth ages 4-16.  The Tennis Instructor is the direct link between the public, program participants, and the Recreation Programmer and Coordinator. 

 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Works under the direct supervision of the Parks & Recreation Programmer and/or Parks & Recreation Coordinator, Parks & Recreation Director, or designee. 

 

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

Supervises program participants and volunteers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 
The following duties are typical for this classification.   These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive.  Other duties may be required and assigned.
 
It is expected that every employee should be on time, fully prepared, every day that the employee is scheduled to work.
 
Provide supervision of tennis camps to include the enforcement of rules and regulations and handling participant concerns, driving to and from various program destinations.
 
Coach youth ages 4-16 in a positive and non-competitive environment.
 
Provide feedback to the Parks and Recreation Department for improvement of the program prior to and after conclusion of the program.
 
Maintain inventory of all equipment; ensure equipment is maintained for future programs.

TECHNICAL TASKS:
  1. Performs all job duties in compliance with the established rules and regulations of the City of Whitefish.  
  2. Demonstrates accountability and responsibility for completion of work assignments in the absence of a department supervisor; provides responsive and timely feedback to supervisory staff on status and progress of work activities.
  3. Promotes safe work practices to ensure a quality environment for participants and staff.

Education and Experience:

  1. 1 years’ experience coaching youth sports and/or facilitating youth sports camps

 

Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  1. Must have the initiative to carry out work assignments in a timely manner.
  2. Must possess good verbal and written communication skills in English to deal positively and effectively with children and the public.
  3. Enthusiasm for program activities, patience, and self-control. 
  4. Should have the ability to maintain control of children ages 4-16 in a positive manner.
  5. Must be a team player.
  6. Have a genuine concern for the well-being and development of young children.
  7. Ability to work well with other staff members.  
  8. Ability to accept guidance and supervision.
  9. Willingness to take initiative and work independently.

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Have First Aid and CPR certification or the ability to obtain upon hire.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED:

Telephone, variety of Tennis and recreation equipment.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee works outside.  Outside weather conditions vary from rain, cold and heat.
