What are the responsibilities and job description for the Parks and Recreation Ranger position at City of Whitehall?

1 | Monitor all parks and immediately address any issues with cleanliness, vandalism, inappropriate behavior, or violations of park rules. Interact with and provide exceptional customer service to park patrons. |
2 | Serve as the department liaison for facility and field rentals. Check in/out shelter rentals. Clean/ prep shelters for rent. |
3 | Communicates performed tasks and incidents through daily, written reports. |
4 | Under the supervision of the Program and Marketing Manager, performs regular playground safety inspections and prepares relevant reports. |
5 | Provide assistance and support to City-wide and department events and programs, including set-up and tear down, trash duty, staffing tables or play features, crowd control, and other assigned duties. |
6 | Conduct work in all kinds of weather; pleasant, inclement, and hazardous. |
7 | Respond to emergencies as needed involving accidents, debris, or other situations. |
8 | Interact with and provide exceptional customer service to park patrons. Welcomes visitors, provides information and assistance to visitors, and responds to visitor questions. While assisting visitors, assessing visitors’ needs, provides basic direction, options or solutions if a situation presents. If situations require a response above basic direction, elevates situation to appropriate personnel. |
9 | Routinely check in on and clean Dog Park. |
10 | Beautification maintenance throughout all the City of Whitehall Parks. This includes loose trash pick up & garbage bag/can replacement. As well as, other duties assigned. |

IMPORTANT JOB FUNCTIONS:
Ensure use of proper safety equipment, clothing, and procedures by self and team members.
Represent the City in a positive, efficient manner by exercising good judgement in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Provide exceptional customer service. Respond to inquiries from patrons and others, and refer, when necessary to the appropriate staff.
Report any malfunction of equipment, hazards, or other problems to supervisor.
Maintain knowledge of Splashpad, and park rules.
Participate in organized and/ or on the job training.
Cooperatively work with other staff to ensure a professional and enjoyable work environment.
Other duties as assigned.
SPECIAL EVENT DUTY:
Assistance with City-wide and department events and programs, including weekend and evening hours, is required. 2025 events are scheduled on the following dates:
May 23-25
May 30
June 27-29
July 2-4
July 18 - 20
July 26

Must be able to work evening and weekend hours
Minimum 18 years of age
First contact customer service experience and/ or manual labor experience is preferred
Valid State of Ohio Driver’s License and good driving recordKnowledge of and skill in:
Customer service and rule enforcement techniques
Conflict resolution and problem solving
Knowledge of equipment, machinery, and vehicles.
Materials, methods, and tools used in performing job functions
Occupational hazards and safety precautions
Salary : $15 - $18
