This position oversees and operates the City of Whitewater Compost site.

This list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities, as management may deem necessary.

  • Duties include, but are not limited too;
    • Staff and oversight of the Compost Site, including opening and closing/locking the gate.
    • Assist City residents in the drop-off of accepted compost materials. 
    • Help unload materials as needed and direction for proper placement.
    • Clarification of residency, as needed. 

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • This position may also require Lawn maintenance, with the use of power equipment.

  • Must be at least age 18.
  • Valid Driver's License required.
  • Prior experience using light equipment and motorized maintenance vehicles desired.
  • Significant attention to safety standards, procedures, and practices.
  • Professional and appropriate responsiveness when interacting with the public.
  • Professional appearance and proper wear of work-wear.  Must wear closed-toed/closed-back shoes (no sandal-style/type of shoe), in some instances steel toed safety shoes;  All seasonal staff will wear t-shirts and long pants;   Safety vest (provided) as needed.
  • Proper and safe operation of both light and heavy equipment and tools, including, but not limited to trimmers, weed whips, watering system, and hand tools.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to walk, utilize fingers to handle, operate objects, tools, controls and reach with hands and arms.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, ability to adjust focus, and the ability to sustain prolonged visual concentration.
  • Requires the ability to operate, maneuver and make continuous adjustment on equipment, machinery, tools and materials used in performing essential functions.
  • Ability to recognize and identify degrees of similarities and differences between characteristics of colors, odors, shapes and textures associated with job-related objects, materials, and tasks.
  • The employee must exert physical effort varying from sedentary to continuous activity during work shift, involving lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, or moving up to 50 pounds.
  • While performing the duties of this job the employee is required to crouch, crawl, kneel, stoop, and climb.

  • The noise level in the work environment is moderately quiet except for areas where hearing protection is required.
  • Ability to work under generally safe and comfortable conditions where exposure to environmental factors such as bacteria and microorganisms pose limited risk of injury.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee may work near moving mechanical parts.
  • The employee may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles.
  • The employee works in outside weather conditions.   
  • The employee is exposed to wet and /or humid conditions as well as other temperature and weather variations.
