BRIEF DESCRIPTION:
The purpose of this position is to perform skilled maintenance, operate equipment and work with and assist crews in the field in a variety of construction and maintenance work, which contributes to the maintenance and support of parks, facilities, water utilities, sewers, streets, and other property. This is accomplished by operating heavy equipment, leading a crew, calibrating equipment, ensuring equipment and materials are sufficient, and repairing and constructing facilities or infrastructure. Other duties include assisting other departments with miscellaneous projects and special events.

LICENSING REQUIREMENTS:
Driver’s License Required – Y Type - A Endorsements – N – Tanker

Individuals who do not currently have a commercial driver's license will be required to acquire a commercial class A license with tanker endorsement will be given 60 days to complete the ELDT Course from date of email enrollment to provide the commercial learners permit (CLP) and 60 additional days to provide a valid the commercial driver's license as a condition of employment.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Mission Essential Position will be required to report for all inclement weather.
Employees of this classification must wear a self-contained breathing apparatus; thus, facial hair is prohibited.
This position is expected to regularly work in or around bodies of water greater in depth than 4 feet, which may pose hazard, especially in the absence of swimming ability.

# Code Essential Functions
1 L Regular and reliable attendance in compliance with given schedules is a mandatory requirement of this position. Schedules may be subject to change with or without advance notice
2 H Operates heavy equipment to work with and assist crews of maintenance workers in completing tasks. The ability to operate track and rubber-tired excavators, graders, bulldozers and large front-end loaders.
3 V Completes field operations by digging holes and trenches to repair and maintain water and sewer systems, streets and parks, backfilling holes and trenches, cleaning work sites, mixing and pouring materials, and cleaning up debris.
4 H Maintains the safe and efficient operation of equipment by completing regular maintenance, reporting equipment failures, and repairing or replacing worn or damaged parts.

Judgement Requirements Makes frequent decisions, affecting the individual, co-workers, and others who depend on the service or product; works in a somewhat fluid environment with rules and procedures but many variations from the routine.
Complexity of Work Performs skilled work involving rules/systems with almost constant problem solving; requires normal attention with short periods of concentration for accurate results and occasional exposure to unusual pressure.

Physical Demands Medium to heavy work that involves walking, standing, stooping, lifting, digging, pushing and raising objects and also involves exerting between 20 to 50 pounds of force on a regular basis and/or 50 to 100 pounds of force on an occasional basis.
Equipment Usage Handles or uses machines, tools, or equipment requiring moderate instruction and experience such as large shop equipment and machines, firefighting apparatus, protective equipment, gang mowers, tractors, vehicles, police vehicles or light trucks, firearms, computers, peripherals, medical or dental equipment, software programs such as word processing, spreadsheets, or custom applications, switchboard; or may repair power tools and light equipment and office machines.
Unavoidable Hazards Operates vehicles in urban areas where heavy vehicle traffic is prevalent such as driving delivery truck to deliver mail and parcels within city; or works in proximity to moving mechanical parts such as in wood working or metal working shop.
Safety of Others Responsible for safety and health of others and for occasional enforcement of the laws and standards of public health and safety.
