This is a part-time position.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION:
The purpose of this position is to determine WIC Program eligibility and provide education and counseling on maternal, infant and child nutrition, as well as provide other support services in compliance with federal, state, and local policies and procedures. This is accomplished by: Performing nutritional assessments; providing counseling and nutrition education to clients individually and in groups; performing laboratory screening assessment procedures; assigning food package prescriptions; evaluating the need for non-contract formulas; promoting and supporting breastfeeding as the optimal way to feed infants; making referrals to other health and social services; participating in outreach activities; presenting information and demonstrations; participating in health fairs; participating in quality assurance activities; performing clerical duties, including entering participant information into the computer, scheduling appointments, issuing food benefits, assisting clerical staff in conducting income screenings and answering the phone; obtaining bloods samples; taking and plotting height and weight measurements. Performing other duties in support of the WIC Program.
LICENSING REQUIREMENTS:
Driver’s License Required –Y Type – C
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Must have 12 or more semester hours credit in food and nutrition and 6 semester hours of science from an accredited university. Transcripts may be submitted to WIC State Agency for review and approval.
Upon hire individuals will be required to be immunized in accordance with Wichita Falls Public Health Department Standards.

1 L Regular and reliable attendance in compliance with given schedules is a mandatory requirement of this position. Schedules may be subject to change with or without advance notice
2 S Teach nutrition education classes. Develop, display and distribute printed materials. Design and decorate bulletin boards. Present instructional information, perform food and other nutrition and health demonstrations, show videos, and facilitate and participate in class discussions designed to improve health status and achieve positive change in dietary and physical activity habits.
3 S Determine and counsel on WIC applicant nutritional status. Interpret and apply standards of the WIC Program and certify eligibility on the basis of nutritional assessments and re-assessments. Collect information and make nutritional evaluations on the basis of dietary habits and nutritional needs for individuals and families through interviews, records of food intake, physical measurements, study of blood test results, medical findings and history of family conditions. Determine and certify nutritional eligibility. Prescribe food packages for individual and familial needs. Collect and evaluate information to determine the need for issuing non-contract formulas. Provide clients with dietary counseling and instruction on their nutritional need or status. During counsels, promote and support breastfeeding as the optimal way to feed infants. Assist clients with setting goals to improve the overall health and nutritional status of themselves and their families. Make, document, and follow-up on appropriate referrals for health care and other social services. Lead and participate in quality assurance record reviews and corrective action plans.
4 S Obtain and evaluate anthropometrics and biochemical measurements. Obtain blood samples through performing finger sticks for hemoglobin and hematocrit levels. Obtain and plot growth on appropriate graphs by measuring height and weight of applicants and participants for growth. Evaluate measurements to provide nutritional guidance.
5 S Perform outreach activities and clerical tasks. Prepare and assemble information, literature and outreach items. Participate in health and information fairs and events to promote the WIC Program and good health. Distribute outreach and educational materials to various targeted locations around the community by mail and personal delivery. Obtain participant financial, social and employment documentation. Assist clerical staff in conducting participant income and residency screening for income eligibility. Enter participant financial and nutritional information into computer. Issue and explain food package benefits. Answer telephones and schedule appointments.
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Experience-Related Requirements Over six months and up to and including one year.
Vocational/ Educational Preparation Requires Bachelor's degree or education and training equivalent to four years of college education in business, liberal arts, or any field other than engineering or the hard sciences.
