What are the responsibilities and job description for the VECTOR CONTROL COORDINATOR position at City of Wichita Falls, Texas?
BRIEF DESCRIPTION:
The purpose of the position is to coordinate vector control activities. This includes assisting with the hiring of part-time seasonal mosquito control workers and providing on the job training as well as assigning the daily tasks to these workers. Additionally, the position works with the Division Head to coordinate chemical orders and provides reports on mosquito control activity throughout the season. The position maintains required TDA pesticide application records. The position may also work in the field completing mosquito control activities such as larvaciding, applying pupacide, spraying for adult mosquitoes, setting and collecting mosquito traps, sending collected mosquitoes off for testing and identification, in-house mosquito identification, setting up trucks for spray missions, calibrating equipment, conducting mosquito resistance testing or collecting mosquitoes to have testing performed off-site, conducting complaint investigations, educational outreach events, and other vectorborne illness control activities as deemed necessary. During the off-season the position will inspect, investigate and enforce all local, state and federal rules and regulations with regard to the safety and sanitation of the public and the spread of communicable disease. This is accomplished by conducting routine inspections, collecting and testing samples, observing conditions, interviewing owners or complainants, characterizing the nuisance, condition, or issue, enforcing standards, working with local and state officials, and educating the public. Other duties include completing related inspection activities, advising management on issues, and addressing citizen inquiries.
LICENSING REQUIREMENTS:
A combination of the following licenses or certifications: Registered Sanitarian or Sanitarian, in-Training
Driver’s License Required – Y Type – C
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to swim. Individuals will be exposed to water levels in excess of one inch.

2 M Coordinates and collection of active and passive vector surveillance data and analyzes surveillance data to evaluate whether the thresholds for treatment of an area are met.
3 S Coordinates part-time seasonal workers; provides on the job training and schedules workers based on surveillance data.
4 H Maintains vector control equipment and chemical inventory including: assisting others with troubleshooting minor equipment issues, coordinating with small engines and fleet maintenance for required equipment inspections and repairs, ensuring equipment is calibrated according to label requirements.
5 H Conducts vector control field activities; tests standing water for presence of larva, treats breeding sites with appropriate chemicals, sprays for adult mosquitos
6 H Conducts inspections specific to area or areas of expertise by reviewing plans and specifications, reviewing past inspections and/or previous actions or complaints, permits and legal actions, talking with complainants and owners, and issuing permits and/or citations.
7 H Completes tests by taking samples, administering chemicals, taking information back to the worksite, analyzing results, documenting results, and disseminating information to the owners.
8 L Completes administrative tasks by reviewing plans and documents, researching codes, policies and procedures, reviewing citations and possibly preparing court and/or warrant actions, and completing reports and maintaining records.

Vocational/ Educational Preparation Requires High school graduation or GED equivalent supplemented by specialized courses/training equivalent to completion of one year of college
