As a Maintenance Worker in Sewer Treatment, you’ll play a key role in keeping our facilities running smoothly by performing essential, hands-on tasks that ensure the functionality and safety of our buildings, grounds, and equipment. This position focuses on varied maintenance activities, including general repairs, upkeep of grounds, and support for skilled tradespeople on more complex projects. The days and hours for this position: Monday - Friday, 6:00AM-4:00PM

- Performs semiskilled building maintenance tasks, such as making minor repairs to chairs, flooring, windows, and sash cords.
- Performs building and equipment maintenance duties including rough carpentry and plumbing work, plastering and cement work, painting and minor electrical repair work.
- Makes boxes, forms, and frames, and performs other semiskilled carpentry tasks.
- May perform some routine custodial duties and/or grounds maintenance tasks, such as operating power mowers, edgers, irrigation equipment, and related devices.
- Completion of work assignments will require the operation of a vehicle.

- Working knowledge of the methods, practices, tools and materials used in maintenance work.
- Working knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions related to maintenance work.
- Ability to interpret and work from rough sketches and penciled layouts.
- Ability to use hand tools, portable power tools, and equipment needed in building maintenance and repair work.
- Ability to climb stairs and ladders; to bend, twist, and reach as necessary to repair equipment.
- Ability to lift and carry bulky items, weighing up to 80 pounds (ability to carry heavier loads with the assistance of another person); load repair equipment and materials onto a hand truck and move where needed.
- Ability to shovel snow, sand, gravel, asphalt, to or from dump truck bed.
- Ability to work outdoors when inclement weather conditions exist.
- Ability to tolerate minor exposure to chemicals used in building maintenance and repair; airborne environmental nuisances associated with machine exhaust and open grounds; and machinery noise (with the use of ear plugs).
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates, employees of other Departments, and representatives of other organizations.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to acquire and maintain a valid Kansas driver's license.
- An employee shall not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace
Required Experience and Training
- Six months of experience in performing semiskilled building, mechanical, construction, or grounds maintenance tasks.
- Six months of experience operating mowers, edgers, tractors, weed eaters, and other related ground maintenance equipment
- A valid Kansas Drivers’ License.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need of a sponsorship.
Preferred Experience and Training
- Six months of experience of experience in a maintenance role, particularly in a public or industrial setting such as sewer treatment or facilities maintenance.
- Specialized training or certification in one or more trades (e.g., carpentry, plumbing, or electrical) or formal education in maintenance or facilities management.
