What are the responsibilities and job description for the Pool Insp-PW-WTQR position at City of Wichita?
This is work of a professional nature concerning health and safety in public pools. This employee evaluates health and safety conditions in the field, explains to the public the reasons for the public health requirements, makes recommendations and follows up to abate unsafe conditions. The employee is assigned to a specific area in which he/she performs control work. Work is performed independently but may be reviewed by a supervisor.
THIS IS A LIMITED PART-TIME POSITION
The days and hours are flexible, from 8:00 AM-5:00 PM, Monday through Friday.
**Will be expected to work up to 20 hours a week January through April and October through December, with approximately 32 hours per week from May through September.**

- Performs field work in inspecting basic health and safety criteria for public swimming pools in Wichita.
- Investigates nuisance conditions as they are reported by citizens and takes appropriate follow-up actions.
- Performs routine water sampling in pools.

- Knowledge of the basic principles and techniques of environmental health protection and safety for swimming pools and spas
- Knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and standards specific to public pools, spas and aquatic facilities
- Basic knowledge of sanitation, biology, water chemistry, and volume based mathematical calculations
- Ability to read and interpret codes, ordinances, and regulations
- Ability to traverse uneven terrain, climb steps or ladders, and tolerate airborne environmental nuisances
- Ability to distinguish colors accurately
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing
- Ability to make presentations to both small and large groups
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates, representatives of other organizations, and the public
- Ability to acquire and maintain a valid Kansas driver's license
- An employee shall not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace.
- High school Diploma.
- A valid driver's license.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need of a sponsorship
Preferred Experience and Training
- College Courses in Chemistry, Biology and Environmental Sciences
Offers of employment are contingent upon passing a pre-employment physical, which includes drug screening, and upon satisfactory evaluation of the results of a criminal record check.
Starting pay for current City employees will be determined by City of Wichita policy or applicable bargaining unit agreement.
