- Installs, inspects, repairs and removes all sizes manual and electronic meters and meter sets.
- Turns water service on and off in response to service orders.
- Investigates and resolves customer complaints related to consumption, pressure and quality.
- Collects and verifies meter readings.
- Enters and retrieves electronic data.
- May assign new accounts to appropriate routes.
- Diagnoses leaks in water facilities such as meters, pipelines, hydrants and valves. Advises customer of corrective action needed if leak appears to be on private property.
- Advises Dispatch about location and severity of leaks.
- Closes valves to isolate area of water system for repairs.
- Acts as back-up for Dispatcher.
- May function in a lead position for training or other purposes.
- Completion of work assignments requires operation of a vehicle.

- Knowledge of the water meters and water service and distribution systems is preferred.
- Considerable knowledge of the geography of, and street locations in, the city.
- Ability to work from schematics, blueprints, maps and computers.
- Ability to plan and organize work.
- Ability to work outdoors in inclement weather.
- Ability to climb ladders and to bend, twist and reach.
- Ability to traverse uneven terrain.
- Ability to tolerate airborne environmental nuisances associated with urban exhaust, open grounds and windy conditions
- Ability to enter and exit enclosures through openings as small as 30" in diameter.
- Ability to work in confined spaces, such as vaults, while wearing the appropriate safety equipment.
- Ability to walk up to six miles daily
- Ability to lift and carry bulky items weighing up to 70 pounds.
- Ability to use a computer to access, interpret and record information
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the public.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing
- Ability to acquire and maintain a valid Kansas Driver's License.

- High School Diploma
- One year of customer service experience with demonstrated ability to handle inquiries, communicate effectively and provide support.
- One year of experience in general construction and/or plumbing.
- Valid Kansas Driver’s license.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need of a sponsorship.
- Two years of work experience in the water utility or public works field.
- Familiarity with manual and electronic meters to perform accurate inspections and repairs.
