What are the responsibilities and job description for the Custodial Crew Leader position at City of Wildwood?
The Custodial Crew Leader is a working supervisor that assists in scheduling and managing he custodial crew by assigning duties and instructing new workers in the proper use of equipment and materials, to achieve a high level of cleanliness.
- Determines the proper distribution of employees and materials for a particular day’s cleaning program by inspecting assigned building(s) to ensure an adequate cleaning job is completed.
- Gives general supervision by assigning tasks and reviewing work of the custodial crew.
- Assists in training new crew members in the proper use of equipment and materials by demonstration and suggestion to ensure proper application of chemicals and minimum breakdown of equipment.
- Ensures that work standards are being adhered to by inspecting assigned work areas and completing inspection reports for review by supervisor.
- Maintains time sheets for individual crew members.
- Maintains adequate stock of supplies by ordering as necessary within a pre-established budget guideline.
- Maintains positive public relations with departments by responding to specific cleaning requests.
- Changes light bulbs and fluorescent tubes.
- Sweeps, vacuums, mops, dusts, shampoos, steam cleans, strips, waxes, polishes, and buffs floors, carpets, and furniture, etc.
- Dumps ash cans and garbage and reline cans with liners.
- Cleans and sanitizes restrooms and replenishes supplies; cleans spills; cleans drinking fountains, mirrors, tables, walls, fixtures, blinds, light fixtures, etc.
- Washes windows, walls, metal and woodwork.
- Cleans rain gutters; sweeps roofs and sidewalks.
- Picks up litter from around buildings and grounds.
- Performs minor semi-skilled interior building maintenance and repairs such as painting, floor covering, plumbing, carpentry, mechanical, and other unskilled and semi-skilled trades work.
- Inspects and maintains assigned custodial equipment and small tools for proper operating condition.
- Opens and closes, locks and unlocks facilities as needed, and may inspect facilities before and after each use.
- Provides record of use to superior.
- Keeps records of work completed.
- Maintains current skills and knowledge in the proper and safe techniques of building maintenance.
- Moves and sets up furniture, chairs, tables, pictures, etc. as needed and assigned.
- May serve on various employee committees, as required and assigned.
- May be temporarily assigned to other Public Works duties by the Director as needed.
- All other tasks as requested
- At least four (4) years of experience as a custodian is preferred.
- Any combination of experience and training which demonstrates the knowledge and experience to perform the work.
- Working knowledge of equipment, materials and supplies used in building and grounds maintenance.
- Working knowledge of equipment and supplies used to do minor repairs.
- Some knowledge of first aid and applicable safety precautions.
- Skill in operation of listed tools and equipment.
- Ability to work independently and to complete daily activities according to work schedule.
- Ability to lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time.
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
- Ability to use equipment and tools properly and safely.
- Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
- Ability to establish effective working relationships.
- Florida Driver’s License must be maintained throughout employment, unless temporarily by the City Manager
