What are the responsibilities and job description for the Field Inspector - Public Works position at City of Wildwood?
Under general supervision, performs technical work inspecting Public Works construction projects to ensure compliance with all applicable standards, federal, state and local regulations. Responsible for quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) in connection with Public Works construction projects. Work includes inspecting projects involving infrastructure to ensure that materials and methods meet local and state codes and established project specifications. Employee is responsible for reviewing project plans and specifications, inspecting and monitoring ongoing construction of public works projects. Work requires the employee to confer with city officials, engineers, architects, contractors, and utility customers to maintain records of individual projects' status and inspections performed.
- Examines construction methods and materials used, to ensure compliance with City planning and development policy and established project plans and specifications.
- Functions as the Public Works project inspector and monitors construction projects through frequent site visits to assure plans, specifications, codes, and regulations are being observed and followed.
- Confers with contractors, architects, engineers, and others, as necessary, regarding construction codes, building plans, etc.
- Recommends issuance of stop-work orders on construction jobsites in cases where non-compliance problems are not resolved.
- Prepares written reports and records of identified deficiencies and maintains various records and reports pertaining to the status of ongoing construction projects.
- Attends project construction meetings as needed. On a regular basis keeps electronic inspection logs, photos, plan changes, etc. to track project progress.
- Assists with Pavement management planning and implementation
- Reviews all Right of Way permits for construction design and compliance
- High school diploma or GED equivalent,
- Five (5) years of experience in roadway and utility construction and or any equivalent combination of education and experience as deemed acceptable.
- Experience in roadway construction and inspections preferred.
- Knowledge of road, utilities and public facility construction principles, practices, methods, materials, specifications, and equipment.
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local codes governing construction.
- Ability to read and interpret construction specifications, prints, and plans.
- Ability to enforce code and construction practices with tact and uniformity
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, contractors and the general public.
- Ability to use technology, software, electronic devices essential to perform position requirements.
