What are the responsibilities and job description for the Industrial Wastewater Technician position at City of Wildwood?
The Industrial Wastewater Technician performs a variety of administrative, skilled and technical responsibilities overseeing the operation, maintenance and administration of the industrial pretreatment program. Hours of work are usually 7 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, but subject to change as may be required.
- Responsible for technical work in monitoring, evaluating, enforcing and overseeing all aspects of the City of Wildwood’s Industrial Pretreatment Program.
- Organize, maintain and order necessary supplies as needed for the IW program
- Assist plant operators as needed including on-call rotation (for licensed operators)
- Responsible for training of backup industrial wastewater technician (as needed)
- Responsible for monitoring, evaluating and enforcing community compliance with Federal, State and City environmental control regulations and ordinances
- Responsible for conducting technical investigations of reported environmental violations, documenting results and issuing Notices of Violations if required, per FDEP regulations
- Input and update computer data as necessary to ensure compliance and reporting
- Provide information to new businesses to ensure compliance with Federal, State and City environmental regulations
- Responsible for sampling multiple sites for COD and TSS monthly, quarterly, semi-annual and annual reporting or as deemed necessary
- At least (1) one year of progressively responsible experience in wastewater treatment plant operations and at least one (1) year working in industrial pretreatment programs
- Certified industrial pretreatment operator preferred
- Comparable amount of training or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications
- Industrial Pretreatment Certification preferred
- Possession of and ability to maintain a valid Florida Driver's License is required
- Must obtain a Class "C" State of Florida Wastewater Operators License within two (2) years from date of hire preferred
- Thorough knowledge of equipment, facilities, materials, methods and procedures used in an industrial pretreatment program
- Extensive experience and working knowledge of wastewater collections systems, grease/oil water separators, FDEP regulations
- Must be computer literate and capable of using computer-based system for communications and/or reporting as required
- Ability to work safely and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Working knowledge of FDEP pretreatment requirements and regulations, a sample collection, testing procedures and working knowledge of laboratory equipment used for data collection
- Use of all necessary hand tools and equipment which may consist of, but not limited to, sample collection tools and equipment, shovel, manhole hook, and communication devices
- Computers, word processing, spreadsheets, and misc. office equipment
