What are the responsibilities and job description for the Water Plant Operator - Class C position at City of Wildwood?
Performs a variety of semi-skilled technical and maintenance work in the operation, maintenance, and repair of the water treatment plant facilities and systems.
- Monitors and adjusts the performance of all equipment, gauges and charts in the water treatment plants; records statistical data concerning plant operations; maintains, operates, repairs and replaces equipment as necessary; charts lab test results for trend analysis and maintains accurate records of analyses and test results; evaluates data and writes reports as required.
- Operates, maintains and repairs malfunctions at the water treatment plant. Repairs gauges, pumps, filters and other controls and equipment.
- Collects all samples and identifies concentrations of chemical, physical or biological characteristics of water required in accordance with local, state and Federal requirements. Gathers and tests water samples for plant efficiency as required. Monitors water quality and routinely checks chlorine and pH levels.
- Performs quality control tests on lab equipment and lab analyses; evaluates procedures and results for accuracy and determines appropriate methods.
- Assures that plant operates within required standards and all routine equipment adjustments as necessary.
- Calibrates, modifies or repairs all instrumentation and control equipment including but not limited to chart recorders, chlorination equipment, high service pumps, well pumps, SCADA controls, ground storage tanks, elevated storage tanks, buildings and structures.
- Trains (as needed) lesser skilled water treatment plant operators for plant operational procedures, sampling, and maintenance operations.
- Must possess a State of Florida Water Treatment Plant Operator's License – Class C
- Must possess a valid State of Florida Driver's License or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Any equivalent combination of education and experience as deemed acceptable.
- Working knowledge of equipment, facilities, materials, methods, and procedures used in water treatment plant maintenance and operation activities. Working knowledge of laboratory procedures and practices and FDEP rules and regulations for water utilities
- Special training on SCADA operations.
- Skill in operation of some of the listed tools and equipment
- Ability to perform process control calculations.
- Ability to work safely.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees, other departments, and the public.
- Ability to understand and carry out written and verbal instructions and perform all other duties as assigned.
