Job Summary
Under the direction of the manager, the lifeguard assists in providing a safe environment for patrons of the Splash Cove pool complex; oversees public activities; safeguard patrons; maintains order; acts in the event of an emergency and administers first aid when necessary; works as part of a team with other lifeguards; participates in the in-service training program; maintains records as assigned; attends all staff meetings; maintains equipment and grounds; uses corrective lenses if needed to maintain 20/20 vision when on duty; and performs other related duties as assigned.
Duties
- Maintain continuous surveillance of the people in the pool and surrounding deck areas.
- Maintain professional behavior at all time, be friendly, helpful, and cheerful to all pool patrons.
- Ensure pool rules are enforced at all times and report unruly behavior of individuals not adhering to behavior protocols to the Manager.
- Ability to react efficiently and effectively in emergency rescue situations, using rescue techniques and equipment.
- Administer first aid as needed and properly document all incidents.
- Teach swimming techniques and safety education to new swimmers
- Assist in setting up and/or breaking down the pool for various activates (i.e. lap swim, classes, parties, etc.)
- Perform daily checks of the facility and pool grounds.
- Perform daily cleaning and minor maintenance of pool complex, including in the pool house and bathrooms.
- Attend in-service trainings for staff.
- Attend pre-season pool training with Pool Manager and Recreation Director
- Other duties may be assigned as required
Requirements
- Must be at least 15 years of age
- Required clearances/certificates:
- Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check
- Pennsylvania Child Abuse History
- American Red Cross Advance Lifesaving or Lifeguard Training Certificate
- American Red Cross standard First Aid Certificate
- American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer Certificate
- Ability to exhibit characteristics of: adaptability, leadership, responsibility, patience, dependability, integrity, and display a positive attitude every day.
- Ability to remain calm and make appropriate decisions in emergency situations.
- Ability to communicate effectively in both one-on-one and group settings.
- Must be able to work entire season (Late May through August).
- Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
- Past experience of working with public preferred.
- Must have reliable transportation to and from work.
- Must maintain physical skills as required by Lifeguard Certification.
- Must be able to bend, stoop, squat, kneel; reach above shoulder level and twist body periodically throughout the day.
- Must be able to frequently walk, run or stand.
- Must possess sight and hearing senses.

Must adhere to dress code requirements at all times.
o Females: I-piece swimsuit, suit must be red in color and may have the word "lifeguard" written in white on it.
o Males: Red swim trunks
- Work is perfonned in a field enviromnent; may be exposed to adverse enviromnental conditions, including inclement weather, extreme temperatures, noise, fumes and other conditions while perfo1ming the functions of this position.
- Ability to tolerate moderate to loud noise levels.
- Ability to work irregular scheduled hours including weekdays, weekend and evening.

Pay: Up to $12.00 per hour
