What are the responsibilities and job description for the City of Williston Housing Commission position at City of Williston?
The Housing Commission has three open positions, one in the Banking Industry, one for the Oil & Gas Industry, and one for the WABA Representative.
Each volunteer position is a 3-year term and involvement in the Commission, and relevant sub-committees, requires meeting at least once a month.
Application letters are due by Sunday, February 16, 2025.
*Applicants must write a short letter detailing their interests and qualifications.
All letters will be reviewed, and a recommendation for the open seat will be presented to the City Commission for approval at the regularly scheduled commission meeting.

-Work hand-in-hand with the local Builders Association, Realtors, and lending institutions.
2. Continue to research incentives for Buyers, Builders, and Developers.
-Research Local, State, and Federal grant programs.
-Research financial options for buyers.
3. Work hand-in-hand with local community members and keep their hand on the pulse of the housing needs here in Williston.
4. Be a liaison between the local Housing Industry and the City Commission.
-Propose innovative ideas to keep the Housing Industry sharp and on budget, affordable, and a consistent inventory of homes while the City is in demand.
5. Explore new ideas for remodeling incentives to restore some of the older homes and neighborhoods in our community.
6. Research and possibly establish “Neighborhoods” throughout Williston and the County.
7. Form a quarterly report for the General Public, summarizing the Housing Economy at a glance, and summarizing the efforts of the Housing Commission.
-Number of permits pulled, homes sold, remodels, average price of homes, rental vs. ownership percentage, occupancy rates, quarterly numbers, and yearly averages, etc.
8. Goals: Develop Housing Incentive Fund, partner with employers, develop an online resource center, monitor housing needs and promoting housing development, input on programs for rehabilitating neighborhoods, create a lobbying strategy at State and Federal levels, support workforce development.
Rules of the Housing Commission
1. Members shall be required to attend not less than 75% of regular meetings.
2. All positions appointed by the Mayor.
3. All terms are 3 years, except the Building Official whose position is full-time.
4. Terms should begin staggered such as (3) for 1 year; (3) for 2 years; (2) for 3 years; and the Building Official.
*All members will serve one year before deciding who will stagger their terms.
5. Voting members must reside in Williams County.
6. Summary notes and handouts will be available on the City Website, and meetings will be open to the public.
7. Meetings will not be advertised unless the Housing Commission decides they need public input for items, but monthly schedules will be posted on the website, if people want to attend.
8. City Staff may be invited to participate in meetings, i.e., Engineering, Planning/Zoning, Building Department, Economic Development.
