What are the responsibilities and job description for the Engineering Summer Internship position at City of Williston?
The City of Williston is seeking an Intern for the Engineering Department, for the period of May 2025 through August 2025. (Dates are flexible)
Perform semi-technical work in assisting engineering staff in data collection, review, investigation and documentation of plans, construction and use of public services.
Examples of Duties:
- One-Call notice review and distribution for excavation work in the City
- Building plan review for water, sewer, access, drainage and other needed City services
- Plat review for required technical data
- Required permit coordination with Engineering
- Data Entry
- Perform other reasonably related duties as assigned by responsible staff
Responsibilities of the Internship will include: Periodic meetings with supervisors, various agencies, private organizations and the public, production of status reports, attendance at City Commission meetings, participation in safety training as needed.
Learning Outcomes –
1. By the close of the internship the student will increase their general understanding/skills in the following:
- Civil engineering from the municipal perspective on public works projects. Interns will be exposed to public works projects such as water main replacement, sewer and water main construction, and street construction/rehabilitation.
2. Complete the following tasks and or projects:
- Tasks performed will include construction oversight, cost estimates, plan review, and information gathering.
- Data analysis and report writing may be part of the assignment. Stormwater management and inspections may be part of this program.
3. Gain professional development/awareness in the following areas:
- Civil Engineering/Public Works/Construction Management/Municipal Government
Desired Majors and or fields of study: Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Surveying, Mechanical Engineering, and GIS
Special Requirements: Valid Driver’s License
