JOB FUNCTION/ PURPOSE
The Lineman Class A is a highly skilled, labor intense and hazardous position that requires individual to work outdoors and perform electrical work relating to overhead and underground electrical facilities in a variety of voltages from 110 to 230,000 volts. This position normally reports directly to a Line Crew Leader or serves as the Line Crew Leader.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Climbs poles or steel structures and works from aerial lift devices to perform all types of work on energized or de-energized lines and equipment such as stringing wire or installing conductor on poles, hanging transformers, building transformer banks, installing pad mounted transformer stations, installing switchgear, lightning arresters, cross arms, insulators or other related equipment and hardware.
- Uses a variety of hand tools, hydraulic and air tools in installing electrical equipment and hardware.
- Uses hot sticks, rubber gloves and sleeves, line hoses and other personal protective equipment to work on or near energized conductor; works on or near energized conductor and equipment up to 15,000 volts.
- Assists with installing underground electric facilities, digging holes, setting poles, framing poles, trimming trees, painting, etc., as necessary for the maintenance and construction of the overhead and underground electric system.
- Reads, interprets, and works from maps, sketches, or prints as required.
- Handles material, operates trucks or other equipment as necessary to perform the work.
- Prepares field reports, material lists, service interruption reports, time sheets etc., as required.
- Maintains equipment in a clean, usable, and safe condition at all times.
- Assists in training apprentice line workers and other new employees.
- Performs other tasks and duties as directed.
- Performs construction and maintenance job tasks associated with electrical lines. Operates bucket trucks, derricks, trenchers, hydraulic tools, chain saws, other tools and equipment as may be required. Conforms to policies and procedures for safe work practices, area protection, proper use of vehicles, tools, and equipment associated with accepted line work practices.
- Visually and audibly detects malfunctions of equipment and safety hazards. Works on energized electrical power lines, equipment, and devices without interruption of normal electric service.
- Communicates with other employees in person and by two-way radio, politely and clearly and also communicates in person at job sites to customers.
- Assists in training and instruction of other personnel. Provides "on the job" training in the field to fellow crew members on proper use and operation of equipment, climbing techniques and proper procedures and safety practices.
- Availability during emergencies is required with rotation to stand-by on a regular rotation.
- Operate heavy equipment to assist in the build of electric infrastructure.
NONESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
· May assist in providing "on the job" training in the field to fellow employees.
· Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school graduate or General Equivalency Diploma. - Required
- Four years’ experience in construction and maintenance of overhead and underground transmission and distribution power systems.
- Successful completion of related electrical courses (apprentice program) or equivalent combination of training and related experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions.
- Ability to work independently to complete tasks.
- Ability to maintain accurate records and reports.
- Must have the ability to problem solve and make independent judgment calls.
- Must be able to remain calm in emergency situations.
- Thorough knowledge of the hazards involved when working around or on energized electrical lines.
- Must be able to distinguish colors used for locates and phase markings.
- Must have experience running heavy equipment such as: dozer, front end loader, excavator, backhoe, skidsteer in relation to electric infrastructure.
LICENSES & CERTIFICATES
- Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Class A CDL driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT
The employee must, within 6 months of date of hire or promotion to this position, reside within 30 minutes of the assigned work facility.
ASSIGNED CITY VEHICLE:
May be assigned City vehicle during working hours and during stand-by rotation.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION/REQUIREMENTS
During periods when the City Mayor issues an emergency declaration for the City of Williston, all employees may be required to work in preparation, response or recovery activities related to the stated emergency.

PHYSICAL AND DEXTERITY REQUIREMENTS: Physical and dexterity refers to the requirement for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.
Requires medium to heavy work that involves walking, standing, stooping, lifting, pushing, and raising objects and involves exerting between 20 to 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis and 50 to 100 pounds of force on an occasional basis.
ENVIRONMENTAL HAZARDS: Environmental hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.
The job may risk exposure to extreme heat and/or cold, bright/dim light, dusts and pollen, wet or humid conditions, extreme noise levels, animals/wildlife, vibrations, fumes and/or noxious odors, traffic, moving machinery, electrical shock, heights, disease/pathogens, toxic/caustic chemicals and explosives.
SENSORY REQUIREMENTS: Sensory ability refers to hearing, sight, touch, taste, and smell required by the job.
The job requires normal visual acuity and field of vision, hearing, speaking, color perception, sense of smell, depth perception, and texture perception.
