What are the responsibilities and job description for the Tree Crew Leader position at City of Wilmington, NC?
Overseeing procedures on City right of ways, parks and property to ensure site, crew and citizen safety by leading crew in removing hazardous tree limbs from sidewalks, stop signs, and buildings, determining when proper safety procedures are followed, conducting work when least disruption to the public will occur, performing routine preventative maintenance to trees by trimming, removing dead trees and stumps, raising low limbs, and pruning properly. Other duties include completing daily reports, attending meetings, responding to emergency calls, working during storms, and assisting other departments.
Experience:Â Minimum one (1) years of tree maintenance experience
Other Requirements:Â Valid Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL). Â Experience climbing, maneuvering, and working effectively in trees on rope and saddle. Basic computer skills required for communicating by email and completing various training activities and daily work logs. Â (City of Wilmington compensates for training to attain and retain certifications)Â
This position is considered essential to the operations of the City and may be required to perform work before, during, and after inclement weather and other emergencies.
Notes: Â Weekend work may be required. After hours on-call rotation will be required. Â Selected candidate will also have to complete a driving/criminal history check and post-offer drug screen.
- Ensuring safety procedures are followed, inspecting work, completing daily work sheets, and ensuring work is done in a timely manner.
- Maintain trees by removing dead and hazardous limbs; pruning and raising limbs over walk ways; roping tree limbs; using aerial bucket trucks, chainsaws, and brush chippers; and raking and cleaning debris.
- Remove and plant trees by roping trees, operating machinery and vehicles, digging, staking trees, and raking and cleaning debris.
- Assist other departments and maintain equipment by assisting during special events and projects, and performing preventative maintenance on all equipment.
