CHARACTERISTICS OF CLASS: This is a supervisory shift-work position requiring significant experience and understanding of WF/EMS operations and Paramedic certification. Reports directly to the EMS Officer or, in his/her absence, the Fire Chief. Performs other duties as required consistent with the overall mission of the WF/EMS.

EXAMPLES OF WORK:

1. Supervises equipment and station maintenance program.
2. Supervises in station activities of on-duty EMS personnel.
3. Performs varied administrative functions as assigned such as personnel scheduling, performance reviews, equipment maintenance.
4. Subject to review by supervisor, is responsible for working schedule of on-duty shift and supervises all shift activities through subordinate officers.
5. Enforces City rules and regulations and applicable state and federal laws.
6. Maintains a complete activity log.
7. Performs reviews of Electronic Healthcare Records as part of the departments Quality assurance program.
8. May be required to participate in public education as needed.
9. Responds to requests for service as needed.
10. Responsible for organization and implementation of in-service training for the on-duty platoon.
11. Maintains complete equipment and supply inventories.
12. Initiates requisitions for purchases upon authorization and with approval of the Department Head.
13. Acts as field liaison for the department in operational matters.
14. Handles incoming phone calls regarding EMS Operations for the shift they are assigned to.
15. Attend leadership and supervisory classes as required by supervisor.
16. Develops thorough knowledge of City street system and County road system.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Must possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent with considerable training and experience in EMS. At least 7 year’s experience in EMS and 3 years as a Paramedic, specifically. Previous supervisory experience preferred. Must obtain KBEMS Level III educator within eighteen (18) months of promotion/hire. Must retain all certifications needed to function as a Paramedic in the State of Kentucky. Must possess a valid Kentucky Operator’s License and maintain a satisfactory driving record.

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Must demonstrate satisfactory written and oral communication skills and leadership Skills. Must be well versed in EMS procedures. Must demonstrate ability to organize training activities. Must be in sound physical condition. Must have ability to pursue

necessary job related studies and training. Participates in Department’s Wellness and Fitness Program.

1. The employee is expected to protect the privacy of all patient information in accordance with the City of Winchester’s Fire/EMS privacy policies, procedures, and practices, as required by federal [and state] law, and in accordance with general principles of professionalism as a health care provider. Failure to comply with the City of Winchester’s, Fire/EMS policies and procedures on patient privacy may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment or of membership or association with City of Winchester.

1. The employee may access protected health information and other patient information only to the extent that is necessary to complete your job duties. The employee may only share such information with those who have a need to know specific patient information you have in your possession to complete their job responsibilities related to treatment, payment or other City of Winchester, Fire/EMS operations.
