What are the responsibilities and job description for the Community Recreation Intern - Summer 2025 position at City of Winston-Salem?
Under regular supervision in a community-based setting recreation setting. Intern will be involved with over-all program operation in areas of interest related to youth/teen/adult athletics, aquatics, recreation centers, special events, and administration. Community Intern will complete 12 consecutive weeks, 40 hours per week (480 hours total), between the hours of 7:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m. including occasional weekends. Required hours can changed based on university/college requirements.
Oversee or assist with various programs and events offered by the department; work with department supervisors to assist, shadow and/or perform assigned tasks for each division and/or facility within the department/city; Prepare reports and other documents; attend meetings associated with the department; engage in recreation and leisure activities such as athletics, games, socials, outings, camps, after-school, special events, and other organization programs; assist with large special event planning and implementation; submit weekly journals; meetings with supervisor.
- Enrolled in four-year accredited university or college studying parks and recreation, leisure services, sports management, or other related degree
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
- Completion of minimum 120 hours of fieldwork/practicum
- Valid Driver's License
