What are the responsibilities and job description for the Concrete Finisher position at City of Winston-Salem?
Performs intermediate semiskilled work maintaining sidewalks and curbs, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Senior Crew Coordinator.
- Removes curbs and sidewalks and prepares the area for repairs.
- Repairs curbs, sidewalks, and driveway aprons.
- Transports necessary materials for repair and placement of concrete.
- Operates equipment used in the removal and repair of curbs and sidewalks.
- Ensures concrete is finished upon completion.
Education and Experience: Less than high school diploma or GED and moderate experience placing concrete, or equivalent combination of
education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: General knowledge of related industry, organization, and department policies, practices, and procedures; some knowledge of related industry organization, and departmental legal guides, recommendations, best practices, ordinances, and laws; skill in using assigned equipment; ability to make arithmetic computations using whole numbers, fractions or decimals; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public.
Physical Requirements: This work requires the regular exertion of up to 50 pounds of force, occasional exertion of up to 100 pounds of force; work regularly requires speaking or hearing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, tasting or smelling, pushing or pulling, lifting and repetitive motions, frequently requires standing, walking, using hands to finger, handle or feel and climbing or balancing and occasionally requires sitting; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires using of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts within arm's length, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work regularly requires working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles and exposure to outdoor weather conditions, frequently requires exposure to extreme heat (non-weather), exposure to the risk of electrical shock and exposure to vibration and occasionally requires exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals and exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment; work is generally in a very loud noise location (e.g. jack hammer work, garbage recycle plant).

- Ability to work 12 hour shifts, 7 days a week during ice & snow control and/or emergency operations.
