What are the responsibilities and job description for the Crew Coordinator - Solid Waste position at City of Winston-Salem?
Provides responsible supervision of assigned personnel, activities and facilities associated with certain operations of solid waste management facilities associated with the solid waste disposal programs for the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Utilities Commission. This position reports to a senior crew coordinator or a Solid Waste Supervisor.
- Plans and supervises activities and services associated with assigned work area or solid waste management facility.
- Supervises solid waste equipment operators and laborers within assigned work area, acts as supervisor in the temporary absence of landfill operations supervisors.
- Ensures that activities comply with all permit conditions and NCDEQ solid waste regulations.
- Ensures all activities follow all safety rules and regulations.
- Interacts with regulatory agencies as needed.
- Tracks, records, and documents relevant operational data.
- Provides required information and technical assistance as needed.
- Assists in the performing of environmental, safety and quality control inspections/monitoring.
- Tracks the maintenance and monitors the repairs and parts control of certain pieces of heavy equipment.
- Assists in conducting training of required environmental and safety courses.
- Conducts investigations of public complaints of the landfill.
- Performs other duties as required.
- Must have any combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma or higher, supplemented by training and experience in solid waste disposal and safety management.
- Must have a minimum 3 years heavy equipment operation experience, prefer some experience in handling municipal solid waste; supervisory experience preferred but not necessary.
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations pertaining to solid waste preferred.
- Possession of a SWANA Landfill Operations Specialist certification is preferred, but not necessary.
- Must communicate effectively, courteously and with authority, both orally and written with in-house personnel, consultants, and the public.
- Should have a working knowledge of computers, including word processing and basic spreadsheet capabilities, as needed to manage solid waste duties, write reports, maintain operating records.
- Must be able to read and interpret written reports, regulations, permits and other correspondence.
