What are the responsibilities and job description for the Legal Assistant position at City of Winston-Salem?
- Conducts title searches and assists with preparation of easements and eminent domain actions.
- Researches information and legal documents using Westlaw.
- Files documents at Clerk of Court and Register of Deeds Office and assists with preparation of court pleadings.
- Mails out documents for attorneys as requested.
- Conducts legal research as requested.
- Assists with contract processing.
- Assists with other administrative tasks as needed.
Education and Experience: Associates/Technical degree with coursework in paralegal studies, or related field and moderate experience working in a law office, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Title search experience; considerable knowledge of legal processes, procedures and terminology; considerable knowledge of research techniques and methods; ability to prepare written reports; ability to express ideas effectively orally and in writing; ability to use various office equipment and software programs; ability to exercise judgment; ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with others; familiarity with scheduling assistance programs, litigation management programs, and workflow management programs; ability to learn new software.
Physical Requirements: This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 10 pounds of force; work regularly requires sitting, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel and repetitive motions, frequently requires standing and walking and occasionally requires reaching with hands and arms and tasting or smelling; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operating machines and observing general surroundings and activities; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
Bachelors degree preferred.

Salary : $52,566
