What are the responsibilities and job description for the Light Equipment Mechanic - UFO position at City of Winston-Salem?
Under immediate supervision, performs semi-skilled, technical and semi-labor intensive work.
The Light Equipment Mechanic day-to-day tasks include operation of specialty equipment such as backhoes, street saws, skids steer, sewer bypass pumps, air compressors, and vacuum sewer trucks; responsible for all small engine repairs that include, but are not limited to, pipe saws, water/sewer pumps, Wacker tamps, boring machines, and trailers; required to work inside and outside in weather; works closely with vendors, obtaining quotes for tools and equipment and making the necessary appointments; responsible for complying with OSHA regulated rules within the shop as well as outside the shop, and having monthly inspections to stay in compliance; and other duties as assigned.
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma, mechanical knowledge of small engines, and knowledge of metric and standard tools.
Must be able to lift or move minimum of 50 lbs. and maneuver up to one (1) mile on foot; must be able to work with large and small power and hand tools. This position requires work outdoors, as well as bending, stooping, and climbing. May be exposed to changing weather, adverse smells and sights, loud sounds and repetitive operations. May occasionally require weekend hours for emergency repairs on equipment.
Other Requirements:Possession of a valid North Carolina CDL A driver's license upon hire.
