Qualification Requirements

Greets customers in person and issue various permits: ABC sales permit, group homes, daycares, commercial signs, temporary permits for tents and stands, landfill permits, commercial pick-ups, residential alterations and residential new home permits and various other permits.
Answers phones to assist customers with issuing trade permits, scheduling inspections, answering questions, giving setbacks and assisting customers with complaints on neighbors; responds to emails; assists team members with questions.
Reviews site plans for residential new construction and additions; ensures setbacks are met and all zoning and building codes are satisfied and drawn to scale; reviews residential construction plans to ensure they are drawn to scale and include proper requirements; reviews the UDO; reviews Health Department releases; communicates with erosion control.
Maintains folders for subdivisions, group homes, commercial signs, non-conforming lots, and other miscellaneous files; ensures office forms are up to date; provides assistance on special projects when assigned by the supervisor.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of City policies and procedures; knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and position specific software; knowledge of City/County Unified Development Ordinances; ability to read and interpret site plans and construction drawings; ability to accurately enter information into computer permitting system; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers and members of the public.
Education and Experience
High school diploma or GED and moderate experience working with construction and the issuance of various permits, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Physical Requirements
This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 10 pounds of force; work regularly requires speaking or hearing and using hands to finger, handle or feel, frequently requires sitting and occasionally requires standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling and repetitive motions; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, using of measuring devices, operating machines and observing general surroundings and activities; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
