- Maintains traffic signals at various city intersections as assigned; upgrades existing systems as necessary.
- Troubleshoots and programs controller for operation of traffic signals.
- Repairs malfunctioning traffic signals.
- Installs underground and overhead traffic signal wires; installs inductive detection loops.
- Sets up road closures and detours for traffic signal repairs; direct vehicle traffic during special events.
- Builds new signals according to specifications.
- Answers trouble calls for field repairs; assigned to night standby duty for emergency repairs
- Performs snow removal duties as needed.

Education and Experience: High school diploma or GED and considerable experience working with traffic signal systems, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Thorough knowledge of related industry, organization, and department policies, practices, and procedures; thorough knowledge of related industry, organization, and departmental legal guides, recommendations, best practices, ordinances, and laws; comprehensive knowledge of traffic signal control systems; thorough knowledge of industry standard and department specific equipment; thorough knowledge of standard office and department specific software; general knowledge of electrical engineering; general knowledge of the occupational hazards involved and necessary safety precautions; ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages; ability to read electrical diagrams; ability to work standby at night for emergency repairs; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public.
Possession of a valid North Carolina class B Commercial Driver's License.
Possession of certification as a Traffic Signal Technician Level II from the International Municipal
Signal Association or ability to obtain within 6 months.
Normal color vision.
Availability to work standby at night for emergency repairs.
