What are the responsibilities and job description for the Survey Party Chief position at City of Winston-Salem?
Under immediate supervision, performs difficult technical and skilled work in leading an engineering survey party; does related work as required.
Supervises all activities of an engineering survey party; personally uses a theodolite, Total Station, Robotic Total Station, GPS, Survey Data Collector, or level on more difficult surveying work and supervises employees in the use of instruments in less exacting work; supervises the staking and grading of construction projects for roads, culverts, bridges, sewers or other improvements; researches property to be surveyed; surveys property to be acquired to determine metes and bounds descriptions; draws profiles and sketches and makes cost estimates for smaller construction projects; assists other city departments in survey work; with City Surveyor, instructs and trains survey personnel.
Education and Experience:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to an associate degree in land surveying and considerable experience in land surveying or other sub professional field engineering work.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Thorough knowledge of surveying and drafting instruments and methods; thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of land surveying; thorough knowledge of engineering mathematics; some knowledge of the principles and practices of civil engineering as related to assignments; some knowledge of the materials, methods and techniques of public works and utility construction; ability to plan, assign and supervise the work of a survey crew in a manner conducive to full performance and morale; skill in the use of surveying and drafting instruments and related appliances and equipment.
Possession of a valid driver's license.
