What are the responsibilities and job description for the Trades Helper - Electrical position at City of Winston-Salem?
Under immediate supervision, perform routine semi-skilled electrical work in assisting in the repair and maintenance of City buildings and equipment; does related work as required.
- Assists a skilled worker in making electrical and related repairs and installations.
- Helps in various ways, such as passing tools and materials, doing preparatory work, performing trades tasks and cleaning after work.
- Able to perform similar assistance in several of the trades if needed.
- Uses standard tools and equipment of the trades.
- Operates trucks to and from jobs and in running errands for skilled workers; cleans and cares for tools and equipment.
- Performs routine tasks independently with little instruction; these tasks include: fixing electrical fixtures as needed, re-lamping/re-lighting, and general labor as needed.
Education and Experience: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and some experience in the electrical field; preference will be shown to those possessing a vocational or trades school diploma or A.A. in the appropriate field.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of the materials, equipment, tools and techniques of the electrical trade; ability to acquire a knowledge within a reasonable time period of the methods and techniques of the electrical trade; ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions; ability to acquire skill in the use of tools and equipment of the electrical trade.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS- Possession of a valid North Carolina driver’s license.
- Must be able to pass a DoJ (CJIS) background check.
