What are the responsibilities and job description for the Utilities Plant Operator - Muddy Creek position at City of Winston-Salem?
- Makes regular tours of plant and checks engines, generators, pumps, aerators, settling tanks, digesters, filters, clarifiers and other equipment for proper functioning.
- Records readings from meters and blowers, valves and other apparatus to meet changing operating conditions.
- Bleeds gas liners.
- Collects samples of raw sewage, primary treatment effluent and grit for laboratory analysis; performs specific laboratory tests.
- Skims grease from settling tanks; pumps sludge; cleans bar screens; disposes of sand, trash, and rags; cleans and services pumps, motors and other equipment.
- Makes minor or emergency repairs.
- Reports defects to maintenance personnel; substitutes for senior operator in his/her absence.
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma and some experience in operation and maintenance of machinery and equipment in a sewage treatment plant.
Must have a valid Driver License. Possession or ability to obtain a valid Grade II Wastewater Operator certificate from the State of North Carolina required. Shift work required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: (Reasonable accommodations may substitute for physical requirements listed): Must be able to lift or move up to 50 lbs. and maneuver up to 1 mile; must be able to operate light and medium equipment; work with large and small objects. This position will work outdoors and may be exposed to changing weather, adverse smells and sights, loud sounds and repetitive operations.
This position is NON-EXEMPT and is eligible for OVERTIME.
