GENERAL PURPOSE:

Industrial Electrician I and II performs responsible skilled work in the electrical operation, maintenance, and repair of lift stations and water and wastewater treatment plant equipment. This work is performed under general supervision – the incumbent normally receives little instruction on routine work and general instruction on new projects and assignments; work is reviewed periodically for accuracy of results achieved with primary feedback given with final results.

Industrial Electrician I

Perform journeyman-level trades maintenance and repair activities on water treatment, wastewater treatment, reclaimed water systems, wastewater collection systems, and water distribution systems.

Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems located at well sites, sewer lift stations, metering and valve vaults, also water and wastewater treatment plants.

Install, maintain, and repair electrical equipment such as telemetry systems, motors, motor control centers, wells, tank and reservoir level probes, sewer lift stations, generators, air compressors, etc.

Perform preventive maintenance at lift stations and treatment facilities.

Perform emergency on-call duties on a rotating basis (two weeks on, four weeks off).

Perform other work as assigned.

 

Industrial Electrician II

Must meet minimum essential functions of industrial Electrician I

 Perform corrective and preventative maintenance to ensure proper operation of water, wastewater, reclaimed water, stormwater collection, and distribution systems and components.

Perform master electrician-level trades for preventative maintenance, maintenance, and repair activities on water treatment, wastewater treatment, reclaimed water systems, wastewater collection systems, and water distribution systems.

Monitor and maintain materials, inventory, and supplies.

Evaluate plant facilities and equipment for effectiveness and efficiency. 

Troubleshoot routine to complex electrical problems related to the operation of Water or Wastewater Treatment and pumping facilities. 

Prepare and maintain a variety of maintenance records.

Perform on-call electrician duties on a rotating basis.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Industrial Electrician I

Working knowledge of the National Electric Code and relevant municipal codes. 

Working knowledge of principles, methods, materials, equipment, and tools used in electrical construction and maintenance. 

Working knowledge of occupational hazards, safety rules, and practices and the ability to transmit such knowledge to subordinates.

Working knowledge of 3-phase electrical systems.

Working knowledge of applicable tools and equipment related to the area of assignment.

Skill in the operation of modern office equipment, computers, and software, including Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).

Ability to read and understand technical manuals and work instructions and apply them to maintenance and operation activities.

Ability to evaluate plant facilities and equipment for effectiveness and efficiency. 

Ability to read blueprints, schematic drawings, and/or construction drawings.

Ability to maintain focus and flexibility with frequent interruptions; ability to follow up and monitor the status of ongoing projects.

Ability to complete tasks in a timely manner, multi-task, organize workload, meet deadlines, follow up, and take tasks to completion.

Ability to troubleshoot routine to complex electrical problems related to the operation of Water or Wastewater Treatment and pumping facilities. 

Ability to remain on call, 24 hours a day, seven days a week for after-hours repairs, emergencies, and other related concerns.

Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with employees, supervisors, city officials, and the general public.

Ability to communicate information tactfully and impartially, both in person and in writing with all staff, city officials, and the general public.

This position is performed with working knowledge – the incumbent has the ability to recall and apply important and commonly used information from relevant source documents or information in a particular subject field.

 Industrial Electrician II

Ability to demonstrate proficiency in the City of Winter Park Core Competencies.

Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and keep accurate records.

Working knowledge of functions and mechanics of electrical motors, centrifugal and deep well turbine pumps, and water transmission systems.

Working knowledge of principles and practices of safe motor vehicle operation and maintenance.

Working knowledge of ozone water treatment plants and wastewater collection systems.

Working knowledge of and experience with PLCs and Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) and Solid-State Reduced Voltage (SSRVS) configuration and startup.

Ability to work routinely with 3-phase 460V AC and higher power.

Ability to program variable frequency drive software and set operational limits

Ability to configure and start VFD and SSRVS and work with 4500V DC power

Ability to write electrical specifications for small to medium-sized projects.

Ability to build complex electrical control panels.

Ability to properly size conductor based on power requirements and length of conductor needed. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Industrial Electrician I

High school diploma or equivalent, supplemented by at least four years of experience in the field of water and wastewater treatment.

Industrial Electrician II

Must meet minimum qualifications for Industrial Electrician I, at least five years of experience in the field of water and wastewater treatment.

An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, which provide the necessary knowledge, skills abilities, and other competencies required for the position may be considered.


CERTIFICATIONS, TRAINING, SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Industrial Electrician I

Possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Driver’s License, Class E or higher.

Possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Journeyman Level Electrical license.

Industrial Electrician II

Must meet minimum qualifications for Industrial Electrician I.

Possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Master Electrician’s license

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Physical

This is medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 25 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force repetitively to lift, carry, push, pull, and reposition objects.

Ability to traverse about a variety of city facilities/job sites, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Ability to ascend/descend stairs, scaffolds, and ladders.

Ability to remain stationary at job sites for extended periods and repetitively operate related equipment for repairs/maintenance.

Ability to manipulate objects, demonstrate small, precise movements, and operate necessary equipment such as small hand and power tools repetitively or continuously.

Ability to position oneself to work in confined or difficult-to-reach spaces.

Environmental

Tasks may require frequent exposure to adverse environmental conditions including inclement weather, sun, extreme temperatures, odors, dirt, dust, loud noises, hazardous chemicals, etc. 

Sensory

Tasks require the manipulation of objects and demonstration of small, precise movements, the ability to detect and distinguish various features of one’s surroundings, and the ability to effectively communicate and exchange information with others.
