The City of Wood Dale is seeking applicants for the position of Assistant Community Development Director.
This is a highly skilled and responsible administrative supervisory position within the Community Development Department. This position is responsible for administrative duties related to assisting the Community Development Director in the daily performance of departmental operational assignments associated with construction, development, zoning, planning, economic development, and code enforcement. Duties involve performing confidential administrative services and therefore the exercise of discretion is required. This position may serve as acting Community Development Director in the Director’s absence. Attendance at certain Committee and/or Board meetings will be required as needed. The functions of this position are complex and technical in nature, requiring frequent exercise of judgement and initiative to ensure work is performed in accordance with federal and state laws and regulations, professional standards, and municipal policies and objectives.

Key responsibilities:
- Create a highly responsive customer service atmosphere for all Community and Economic Development communications, responses and inquiries.
- Respond to complex questions related to zoning and building code matters including permit applications, procedures, timelines, fees and registrations.
- Work with developers to encourage development in accordance with codes and long-range goals.
- Coordinate department activities with other City departments and other outside local governmental agencies.
Qualifications
The successful candidate must possess strong management, organization, financial, customer service and communications skills. Thorough knowledge of municipal planning and economic development is strongly desired; however, exceptional candidates with a proven management track record in other fields may be considered.
A Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning, Public Administration or related field is required. Five to ten years of progressively responsible supervisory/management experience in planning, zoning, economic development, community development, redevelopment, housing, building permits and inspection is desired.
The salary for this position is based on qualifications and work experience. The salary range for this position is $95,217 - $134,000. Benefits include Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund; paid vacation and sick leave accrual; medical, dental, vision, and life insurance.
