The Sports Center Specialist will assist in the overall operation, maintenance and supervision of the sports center. In the absence of the Sports Center Assistant Manager, oversight of all facility functions will become the responsibility of the Sports Center Specialist.
The position predominately works during second shift (2:00pm-10:30pm) Tuesday-Saturday, especially during the peak winter season. This may also include extended hours for special events or maintenance. Shift times and days will be determined by the Sports Center Assistant Manager based on seasonal facility operations.
The Sports Center Specialist is an active leader position that works under the general supervision of the Sports Center Assistant Manager and the Recreation Enterprise Manager. The position supervises all part-time and seasonal employees and collaborates with the full-time sports center team.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Recruit and develop sports center part time staff through comprehensive training, mentoring and supervision. Supervise, plan, direct and organize the duties and performance of part-time sports center employees to ensure customer experience meets facility standards.
Anticipate staffing needs and assist in scheduling part time employees to ensure adequate supervision of facility and to meet all program needs.
Provide coordination and support for Sports Center tenants relating to normal operations as well as special events.
Diplomatically enforce all sports center policies and procedures.
Prepare and direct all operational activities relating to spectator events, tournaments or facility rentals. This may include assisting with facility preparations, ticketing, crowd control, concessions and cleanup.
Assists with facility scheduling. In the absence of the Sports Center Assistant Manager, the Sports Center Specialist will be the back-up for facility scheduling duties.
Understands, reflects, and communicates the sports center mission statement to customers and staff to deliver a high level of service.
Maintain and foster an environment, which facilitates the Exceeding Expectations (professional, responsive, leaders) philosophy of the City.
Fosters an inclusive work culture and advances the City’s diversity, equity and inclusion goals.
Coordinate with food and beverage lead regarding facility usage and corresponding staff needs to ensure high service levels are maintained.
Gain working knowledge of the entire budget process - responsible for developing and overseeing specific areas assigned within the expense and labor portion of the sports center budget.
Participate actively as a member of the Parks and Recreation Division staff, attend weekly staff meetings, and provide input as required.
Perform other duties and assume other responsibilities as apparent or assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Two-year post-secondary degree or higher in an ice arena, recreation, operations management or related field or equivalent work experience.
Three (3) to five (5) years of ice arena experience including the operation and maintenance of mechanical, electrical, ice refrigeration systems, and cleaning equipment.
18 years of age.
Valid driver’s license, or ability to obtain prior to employment.
Ability to perform physical demands as listed in position description.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Supervisory experience working within a community center, sports complex or large public facility.
Five (5) plus years of ice arena experience including the operation and maintenance of mechanical, electrical, ice refrigeration systems, and cleaning equipment.
Bachelor's degree
US Rinks CIT, CRA or CIRM certification.
Certified CPR and Basic First Aid or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire.
Operational knowledge of electric ice resurfacer, including maintenance and troubleshooting.PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
