MENTORSHIP LEADERSHIP EXPERIENCE ASSISTANT PROGRAM COORDINATOR

The City of Worcester seeks qualified applicants for a Mentorship Leadership Experience Assistant Program Coordinator for the Division of Youth Opportunities within the Department of Health and Human Services. Under the direction of the Mentorship Leadership Experience Site Coordinator, the Mentorship Leadership Experience (M.L.E.) Assistant Program Coordinator will work for the Recreation Worcester summer program and is responsible for working with the M.L.E. Program Coordinator to develop the program, engage with families, and facilitate the curriculum of the M.L.E program. The M.L.E. Assistant Program Coordinator will lead and develop a group of 13 – 14-year-olds in a youth workforce readiness program and work with community partners and other youth serving organizations to provide a holistic view of youth work opportunities to participants. Additionally, this individual will work with the Recreation Worcester staff to support the implementation of athletic, academic and arts programs for various age groups.

ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS:

  • Develop and implement a curriculum that promotes the development in youth work skill sets, personal growth, and leadership among M.L.E. youth members
  • Plan, organize, and lead M.L.E. meetings and activities, ensure a safe & engaging environment for all participants
  • Facilitate discussion and activities that promote team building and leadership development
  • Support staff in problem solving and crisis management
  • Evaluate quality of program and suggest improvements
  • Facilitate and continue development of M.L.E. program & curriculum
  • Facilitate weekly M.L.E. program meetings
  • Develop and facilitate trainings to develop staff
  • Build connections with community partners to provide field trip experience to participants
  • Supervise youth participants and guide them to field trip locations by utilizing the Worcester Regional Transit Authority bus system

SECONDARY ELEMENTS:

  • Order office and summer program supplies
  • Plan meetings and take detailed notes
  • Other duties as assigned

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with diverse populations, organizations, and interests
  • Ability to work with students with special educational or emotional needs
  • Ability to multitask
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to provide and receive constructive feedback
  • Ability to build relationships and networking skills with participants, families, colleagues, and community members
  • Ability to travel to and from various Recreation Worcester and other city locations on a regular basis
  • Ability to perform work with considerable independent judgment, creativity, and initiative.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Associate’s degree in Human Services or other related field

o An equivalent combination of education, training and two (2) years of work experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job will be considered in lieu of the above-mentioned requirements

  • Previous administrative experience
  • Previous staff or volunteer supervision experience
  • Experience working with children and families from diverse cultural, socioeconomic backgrounds and abilities
  • Experience facilitating activities and programming
  • Must pass a criminal background check (CORI & SORI)
  • Valid Driver’s License and reliable transportation

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • One (1) year of administrative experience
  • Two (2) years of staff supervision experience
  • Two (2) years of experience working with children and families from diverse cultural, socioeconomic backgrounds and abilities
  • One (1) year of experience facilitating out of school activities and programming
  • Bilingual candidate
  • Worcester Resident

SALARY: $17.50 hourly, full-time, temporary, non-benefitted.
