This Office Specialist position is within the Department of Public Safety in the Police Records Unit.
Office Specialists within the Police Records Unit are responsible for general office and clerical support duties, such as processing requests for police reports, background investigations, applications to purchase firearms, and other related tasks/requests. They also assist citizens with questions or requests in person, over the phone, or through email.
Office Specialists are responsible for data entry, scanning, record keeping, filing, drafting correspondences, entering and maintaining warrants and Personal Protection Orders (PPOs) within the Law Enforcement Information Network (LEIN), and processing subpoenas. This position also fulfills Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests. FOIA is highly confidential, sensitive, and technical work, including searching for and gathering requested information, reviewing and redacting documents and videos, and corresponding with the requestor. Office Specialists may be tasked with organizing and working on other departmental special projects or tasks.

Candidates must have a high school diploma and be able to obtain LEIN certification within one year of hire.
Wages for this position are dependent on qualifications and experience. Employees are eligible for a pay increase six months after hire. Bilingual candidates are preferred. Candidates hired in the Office Specialist I position will have a wage range of $19.91 to $24.32. Candidates hired into the Office Specialist II position will have a wage range of $23.25 to $28.90.
