Position Summary
In the Recreation and Parks Division. This classification performs skilled work in the operation of specialized park maintenance and ice rink equipment. Employees in this class are responsible for the safe and efficient operation and preventative maintenance of heavy motor equipment. Employees in this position may also schedule work for employees in routine park maintenance activities. Employees exercise independent judgment in the operation of equipment and in the performance of assigned tasks, however, assignments are received from a supervisor and inspected for desired results.
Essential Functions
Operates loader in a variety of maintenance projects.Operates a truck or jeep mounted snow plow and other snow removal equipment.Drives dump truck hauling topsoil or other materials necessary for park maintenance.resurfacing. Operates pole cat for tree trimming and tree removal and all other necessary projects.Operates tractors and turf-grass moving equipment in cutting grass and other general maintenance.Performs routine maintenance work on motorized equipment.Oversees and assists other employees in loading and unloading trucks, routine park maintenance, field and other manual labor tasks and various custodial duties.Performs other related work as required.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Considerable knowledge of the principles and techniques of operating heavy motorized equipment.Considerable knowledge of standard practices, methods and materials used in construction, or park maintenance activities.Considerable knowledge of the rules of safety operation and of the precautions to be taken in order to avoid accidents in the operation of heavy equipment and/or mowers.Some knowledge of the geography of the City.Skill in the operation of heavy automotive equipment.Ability to make mechanical repairs and adjustments and to service heavy automotive equipment.Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.Good physical condition and ability and willingness to perform required manual tasks.
Minimum Acceptable Training and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent.
Three to five years in the operation of heavy automotive, ice making and related equipment used in construction and park maintenance activities or other equivalent experience.
Possession of a valid Class B CDL motor vehicle operator's license with air brake and tank endorsement as issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
History Clearance check.
