GENERAL PURPOSEUnder the direction of the Special Operations Supervisor, the Head Swim Coach is tasked with cultivating an environment that challenges and educates swimmers while placing an emphasis on safety, inclusion, and education. The Head Swim Coach provides leadership to the assistant coaches. This position regularly acts as a mentor to others, provides analysis of swimming techniques, develops, organizes, and executes trainings, and acts as a liaison between the City of Yukon and surrounding municipalities to organize and host swim meets on a weekly basis. This position requires weekend, morning, and holiday work.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS•18 years of age or older•Previous experience as a competitive swimmer or competitive swim coach•Proficiency in all competitive strokes with the ability to demonstrate and mentor others in their execution using teaching aids as needed•Must have good interpersonal relationship skills•Must be self-motivated and be able to work as part of a team•Ability and willingness to assume responsibility for work performed•Good organizational skills, outgoing, detail oriented, and professionalPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS•Previous experience in exercising judgment, tact, and diplomacy in dealing with the public•Previous experience as an American Red Cross, Ellis and Associates, or Star Guard Elite Lifeguard•Previous experience as an American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor•Provided free by the City of Yukon Parks and Recreation DepartmentoAmerican Red Cross Lifeguarding and Administering Emergency Oxygen Certification

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES: •Creates a positive atmosphere that encourages swimmers to challenge themselves while ensuring a fun experience for all participants•Builds rapport with participants and motivates them to achieve higher levels of performance•Oversees the development of weekly workout routines and mentors directreports when changes are required for the benefit of the team•Communicates effectively with surrounding municipalities to ensure the team is properly registered for meets•Ensures that accurate records are kept regarding individual placements during meets•Responsible for the supervision and well-being of swimmers during practices and swim meets•Assists in the organization and execution of all special activities and celebrations for the team•Plans and executes a weekly coaches’ meeting on Fridays prior to attending the weekly swim meets to ensure the coaching staff and the team is prepared•Communicates effectively with swim team parents to distribute any required information such as team meetings, swim meet schedules, special events, and provides assistance in the coordination of refreshments at all swim meets•This is not an all-inclusive list of Essential Duties and Responsibilities, and all staff will be required to perform other duties as assigned
