We are looking for someone to join Team Yuma as a Cart Range Assistant, working with the Department of Parks & Recreation. The ideal candidate will perform duties assigned primarily to Desert Hills Golf Course.
Under basic supervision, may perform a wide variety of activities in the safe delivery of general recreation, programs, and events. Depending on area of assignment, duties may include, but are not limited to, providing coaching, instruction, and supervision to recreation program participants; leading the setup and operation of equipment and venues for events, programs, and facilities; monitoring the operation and maintenance at event sites; and/or providing bartending, beverage and food services for restaurant, banquet, and event customers.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: - Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Supports the relationship between the City and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with citizens, visitors, and City staff; promotes the City goals and priorities, vision, values and the “Yuma Way”, and complies with all City policies and procedures.
- Maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues and City information; performs other duties as required or assigned.
- Resolves routine problems encountered in performance of work assignments.

Recreation Assistant/Cart Range Assistant
- Assists patrons in the use of golf course, golf carts and driving range.
- Checks carts for damage or mechanical problems.
- Removes trash, cleans carts and refuels carts as needed.
- Schedules golf carts for servicing and assists mechanics with repairs.
- Keeps records on charging, maintenance and breakdowns of carts.
- Replaces non-operating carts on courses as needed.
- Cleans and maintains cart shed.
- Assists customers by answering routine questions.
- Prepares and sells food, beverages, admissions, and merchandise to customers.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Training and Experience Guidelines
No specific educational or experience requirements; some customer service or maintenance experience or participation in group programs is preferred; must be at least 15 years of age.
Knowledge of:
- City policies, rules and regulations governing the conduct and safety of persons using municipal recreational facilities, programs, sporting competitions, and equipment.
- Rules for athletic games and sporting competitions.
- Arts and Crafts techniques.
Recreation Assistant/Bartender
- Proper safety and sanitation practices and methods used in food preparation and storage.
- Common drink recipes, beer, wine, and liquor types.
- State and County liquor and food handling laws, rules, regulations, practices and procedures.
- Restaurant and bar equipment operation and maintenance.
- Customer service practices and principles.
- Principles of cash handling and cashiering.
Skill in:
- Overseeing and controlling activities and participants.
- Creating a safe and functional event environment, following established safety procedures and protocols, and protecting participants from personal injury.
- Promoting a positive environment, good personal behavior, and safety standards.
- Providing effective customer service and dealing tactfully and courteously with the public.
- Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with co-workers and the public.
- Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.
- Following and understanding verbal and written instructions and procedures.
LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
A valid Arizona State Driver’s License, Food Handler’s permit/County Health Department Certificate, and Arizona liquor law Title 4 training may be required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed indoors and outdoors at City recreation facilities and venues; must maintain physical standards prescribed by the City; may be required to bend, reach, stoop, and lift objects.
