The City of Paris, KY is seeking full-time Water Distribution and Collection Laborers. This position is part of the team that is responsible for helping build, maintain, and manage utility infrastructure and ensuring public health and safety by supplying safe drinking water to homes and businesses in the City of Paris and Bourbon County as well as preventing and/or responding to sewage overflows and blockages.
Compensation will be based upon experience and active certifications. Once available, City will pay candidates to obtain higher certifications.
Trainee $14.14
Collections/Distribution Class I $14.79-16.53
Collections/Distribution Class II $16.31-18.24
Collections/Distribution Class III $17.83-19.96
Job Duties:
Provides general labor work required to maintain water and sewer lines throughout the city and county. Assists in the construction, maintenance and cleanliness of water distribution systems. Inspect, clean, maintain, construct, and repair wastewater collection systems including sanitary sewers, storm drains, pump stations, pipes, manholes and catch basins.
Operates vehicles and motorized equipment safely and efficiently; Class I drives light and medium trucks; higher Classes may operate heavy equipment. May be required to operate a variety of light and moderately heavy power-driven equipment. Detects malfunctions in equipment and infrastructure and makes minor repairs or recommendations for major repairs.
Some knowledge of water system operation or plumbing is preferred, but training is available. Candidates should have a thorough knowledge of the tools and equipment used and preventative maintenance practices. Candidates who are dependable, show initiative and sound judgement, and the ability to understand and to follow instructions are preferred.

Key Requirements
- High school or GED equivalent
- KY driver’s license
- Ability to acquire appropriate Water Distribution and Wastewater Collection certifications as issued by the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
- Must be able to work in inclement weather. Exposure to water and extreme elements.
- Minimum lifting restriction 50lbs frequently
- Flexible Schedule for emergency repairs.
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit for an extended period of time, walk and stand; talk or hear; use hands to finger, handle, feel, or operate objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms; operate heavy equipment that produce vibrations, perform repetitive movements of hands or wrist; crouch crawl; have the ability to move safely over uneven terrain. Must be able to wear personal protective gear correctly during the entire shift.
Physical criteria include:
- The ability to lift 25/50 pounds regularly
- The ability to see and respond to dangerous situations
- The ability to safely climb ladders
- The ability to work in extreme weather
